*bangs head against wall furiously* Anyone tag the threads I'm looking for?
Help a mama out :)
I'm completely serious when I tell you I have been searching for hours....I promise I would never ask here unless I had exhausted my best efforts.
*sob* Please help, I must be an idiot or something.
I'm looking for that thread that was a sticky for a while that had the title "Best weight loss article I've read in a long time" or something like that....I thought I bookmarked the page but I can't find it.
The other thread I'm looking for has the calorie deficit formula in it (although the post I'm looking for was a response)....it had the formula (BMR*ACTIVITY LEVEL,....then I don't remember if the rest) AND it had all the multipliers for the different activity levels!

I don't know how else to thank you....so I just added you as a buddy, LOL. Which I'm not completely sure what that means...as sometimes I get a notification that somone has added me, but then I never hear from them :D.
Let me pull a term out of the 90's..."You're the bomb"
No problem at all, I was just in the right place at the right time :) Good luck finding the other one!
Hi! ![]()
I don't know about the BMR one you were searching for, but this is a Favorite number-cruncher for me! ![]()
Maybe you'll enjoy playing with it, too...? If you don't have a number for body fat %, just do it without, then redo it with the figure they'll guess for you... then you'll get extra info in the second try... I've used it at various weight and activity levels to see how it changes as I get smaller and/or more active... Hope it helps! ![]()
P.S.-- Answers are slower on weekends! Try again Monday by * bumping * it if you need to... ![]()
hope you found what you were looking for! i am new to the site so i am still trying to navigate around!

I'm not sure about the post that you are looking for but I think I can answer your other question. The are a few different formulas for figuring BMR. Harris-Benedict is good if you don't know your lean body mass. If you do know your lean body mass, then Katch-McArdle is probably a little more accurate. These are just two examples. There are others.
The Harris-Benedict formula (BMR based on total body weight)
Men: BMR = 66 + (13.7 X wt in kg) + (5 X ht in cm) - (6.8 X age in years)
Women: BMR = 655 + (9.6 X wt in kg) + (1.8 X ht in cm) - (4.7 X age in years)
Note: 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters
1 kilogram = 2.2 lbs
Katch-McArdle formula (BMR based on lean body weight)
BMR (men and women) = 370 + (21.6 X lean mass in kg)
Once, you figure out your BMR using one of the formulas, then you multiply by the appropriate activity factor.
Sedentary = BMR X 1.2 (little or no exercise, desk job)
Lightly active = BMR X 1.375 (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/wk)
Mod. active = BMR X 1.55 (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/wk)
Very active = BMR X 1.725 (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days/wk)
Extr. Active = BMR X 1.9 (hard daily exercise/sports & physical job or
2 X day training, etc.)
thanks to you both! it's a great article :)
the part where he suggests taking a break after 6 months of restricting calories really resonates :)
2beittybitty: THANK YOU! That website is awesome!!! Yes, that calculator is so fun….weird how this stuff is starting to be “fun” :). I liked the part that confirmed how if you eat too few calories you burn muscle in addition to fat….great resource, THANKS!
Oceanbeach82: Welcome! Glad you found us (she says as a still relatively-new, newbie ;).
bubbaluffaguss…What can I say…you are awesome! Thanks for posting all that info!!!!!!!!!! That was super nice of you :) !!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know the actual formula for calorie deficit? I’m thinking it is just BMR*activity level-calories consumed for the day?? Is that all you have to do?
inbloom: Glad you got some use out of this silly thread, LOL. I liked that advice too...it makes sense that if you can maintain then you should be able to meet your overal health goals.
Thanks again everyone!!
