Banned Heinz ad

Quote  |  Reply

My friend sent me a link to a Heinz commercial that was banned because a plethora (200+) people complained that it was inappropriate for television because it showed two men kissing.

I personally think the whole thing is a little silly, because not only is it quite clearly a farce, but also I don't see the big deal about 2 men kissing on tv. Tell me what you think, are you offended by the ad? If at all possible, I'd also like to know what parents would tell their kids if they asked why 2 men were kissing on the telly.

Link to commercial.

Link to news story about the pulling of the commercial and the backlash.

What a stupid thing to ban, made me laugh and almost shoot water out my nose.

O..... M..... G.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Have we finally reached the "PC has gone too far" point??  That plethora of people have seriously filthy minds, and no ability to interpret.  Dumb, dumb, dumb!  Sigh!

I don't see what is wrong with it, it's just taking the mick....

what a great commericial. I love it! Crazy people.

It was funny and cute.

Or how about this ad being recalled:

 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24860437/

I mean Rachel Ray as a terrorist sympathizer, c'mon people. Get over it!

i bet if that ad was 2 women kissing, only half the people would've complained. fkn double standards! i guess we can't expect much else from such an ignorant & unnaccepting public though.

I can't watch videos right now (I stand up and scream obscenities , its very upsetting to the people around me apparently. Intolerant snobs. But I digress...) What is the big frickin deal about two men kissing? I don't get it at all. Kind of like the janet Jackson thing four years back. It is a breast people, we've all got them chill out. Part of the reason Americans have high blood pressure I suspect...

I think they did the advert just to get people upset, and therefore get some free advertisemens.  It was on the radio, TV and the Internet that they pulled it.  Can you ask for more attention from a single advert?

I would tell my children that just like how mommy and daddy can love each other, two men or two women can also feel that same love for each other.

I think its unfair that a small number homophobic people can make decisions for the rest of America Britain.

peace: that was my take too with how to deal with kid's questions.

The ad is a British ad though, so it's a small number of homophobes making decisions for the Brits!

@zim: that made me lol, apparently you can't wear a black and white scarf without being one of them terrorists. I better tell my 60 year old mother to throw away all of hers.

Well that doesn't surprise me.....our TV is regulated to extreme over here, everything has to get rated by a board and they say yes or no....and this just shows how tight it can be.

There's some dating website or other about chemistry that features two men together standing in a deli.  I haven't seen that since it aired one time, I wonder if people complained about that one, too.

Oh, remember all the homophobia around the Snickers commercial when the two guys accidently kissed eachother and one said, "Quick, do something manly!" and he rips out his chest hair?

It's like, come on people, they're just commercials.  You see it in every day life, you see it on some TV shows, deal with the damned advertisements.

I thought TV was way more lenient all throughout Europe! Especially more open than America would be. Don't they show naked people on TV a lot? My dad said he saw some.

Depends on the country and the time of day.  In Britain, you can't show nudity before 10 pm and you can't really show some things then still.  The Germans seem to have the same "watershed" but you see more on German TV, including puzzling games shows hosted by a trashy looking topless woman.  I am not sure about the watershed for sex in France, didn't watch much late night TV, but when I would watch rugby games they would do interviews in the lockerooms and there was no attempt hide things there.   There is not wrong with men kissing on TV in the UK as far as the rules go.  Heinz choose to remove it, which is why I am convinced it was a publicity stunt.

I didnt wait for my daughters questions.  She knew early on that love can be man/man, man/woman and woman/woman.  Some said that was pushing it to early but the first persons opinion I wanted her hearing was mine before she started hearing some of the judgemental prejudices out there.  It helped that my best friend is gay so she knew from experience a lot of negaitve stereotypes she'd hear just werent true and not just because I said so.

The ad is funny and how weird that just that level of affection in such a cute way is still to much for some.
Ha, that commerical cracked me up.
