bare naked

I was wondering how often (if at all) people weight themselves?

Also, I was wondering how much (if any) the women here gain during their period, and also when during your period? The entire length? I've gained like 3 pounds and my roomate swears it's that, but I'm unsure.

Also, I'm convinced anything could contribute to extra weight on the scale... here's confession time, who else weighs themselves in the buff?

I only weigh myself naked, and only in the morning (which is when I hear we weigh the least every day. So, I actually weigh myself every morning, just to keep myself motivated. I wouldn't know anything about periods and water retention, but I'm sure some of the gain has to do with that. However, 3 lbs isn't that much really. I can fluctuate about 5 lbs every 2 days, 5 on, 5 off, depending on what i'm eating, and how i'm working out.

I weigh myself every time I'm at the gym, which is about 5 times a week. However, I'm at peace with my body's natural fluctuations and don't get freaked out if I see 132 one day and 133 the next, nor does that pound of change influence my mood the rest of the day or the choices I make either way. If you're someone who's going to get upset with small upward swings (which many people are, understandably), then I suggest weighing yourself no more than once a week, at the same time each week.

I gain two-three pounds the day before, all during, and sometimes the day after my period. After that, it drops back down to normal. However, some of the women here report really drastic weight swings, between 5-10 pounds. During your period you retain water so a small weight change could absolutely be contributed to that. Your roommate is right. :-)

I know a lot of people weigh themselves in the buff here--unfortunately because I weigh myself at the gym, that's not an option! I do take off my shoes, which most people I see at the gym weighing themselves don't do. Even at home, I usually weigh myself with clothes, but without shoes (and no heavy materials like hoodies), since that's how I get weighed at the doctor's. However, I'm debating about doing it in the nude next time I'm home just for curiosity's sakes!

I weigh myself every morning, nude, right after I go pee. I also agree with minerva_moon in that I don't let small fluctuations negatively affect my mood. Although, the lower my weight gets, the happier I get! :)

I also happen to be going through that monthly thing (bleh) right now. Day before yesterday I weighed in at 149.5lb. Yesterday the scale said 151.5lb (day 2 and heaviest of period). I decided to cut back my cals a little bit and drink lots of water and this morning the scale was back to 149.5lb. So I got to thinking that maybe the period water retention is similar to sodium water retention, and drinking lots of water seems to flush out both. Don't know if this is true or not, but it worked for me. Has anyone else tested this theory?

Sorry (guys) if this was TMI, but I hope that helps with your questions.

Jennifer

I weigh myself once or twice a day, mostly to get used to fluctuations. I find that I actually weigh more in the morning. I weigh the least after I come home from school, around 4:00.

I am at home all day, (SAHM) and the scale is right there. So I know its bad but I weigh myself 5 times a day just to see if the scale works or how my weight fluctuates. In the morning it is the lowest and usually increases 1.5 to 2 lbs once I have eaten and stays that way. I usually wear light weight clothes and am shoeless, or just naked.

My period tacks on ~5 lbs a couple a days before and passes after my heavy flow day. Yugh.

So I usually take the high weight as my true weight because I feel like I am cheating if I use the low one. But I still love seeing that lower number.

I might have to limit my weigh ins but I am such an impatient person.Undecided

I also weigh myself every morning, in the nude. During TTOTM I can go up about 3 pounds if I do not drink a lot of water and sweat a lot of it out. If I drink and work out hard I can keep that water weight off. A couple days before for me seems to be the time i will gain the water weight and a couple days after is usually when I am at my lowest for the month.

I weigh myself naked every morning, after going to the bathroom, but before showering.  I gain between 2 and 5 pounds the day before TTOM, and hang on to it all week.  The day after it's over, I lose that weight, plus another pound or so.  Then I stay at that weight for three or four days.  Then my weight goes up about two pounds.  Then I stay at that weight for two or three days.  Then I start losing weight like crazy, which lasts until my period starts the next month.

Yeah, I know it's really complicated.  It does seem consistent, though.  This is the third month in a row that I've seen the exact same pattern.  I get really tired of the fluctuations, but during the last phase, when I'm losing really fast, it feels great.  Logically, I know that I'm steadily losing that weight over the course of the whole month, but water weight is covering it up, but it's still really fun to see a 3 pound loss on the scale in one week.

Every morning, nude, after urinating.  I find that is the only constancy I really get during the day.  My weight log fluctuates erratically BUT my little trend line continues to travel downward.  And I don't have a TOM cuz I'm a dude, so no comment here :)

I weigh on Tuesdays, sometimes I skip a week, at the same scale in a mall.  So, I keep my birthday suit covered!  I wear the same types of clothes and pair of shoes.

i weigh first thing in the morning after i "i powder my noseEmbarassed"  and yes in my birthday suit.... i dont want any extra pounds showing on that scale.... clothing and shoes adds up.... and i have gained up to 7 pounds about 3 days and durning the time mother nature is torchering me....  so yes your weight could go up at that time....  good luck with your diet!!

Cool  I weigh myself every time I am near my scale and naked; which is about 5 times a day.  I like to understand the fluctuations.  I don't obsess over it and not the least bit rattled by the ups and downs.  I can swing 5lbs over the course of 1-2 days.  For tracking purposes, I use my wake up weight, after morning urination, before my first cup of coffee or the shower.  I only weigh on my own home scale which is a top of the line digital.  It has multi person, weight, bmi, tracking and a 1/2 dozen other features; none of which I use.  Foot in mouth.   However it is very very consistent with weigh-ins and I don't have to wonder if the scale is falsing or poor at reading different weights.  I don't have to step on it 3 times and take the average.

I'm a guy so no personal experience, but in conversation with my workout friends of the more popular sex, weight gain seems to occur with every harvest moon. Wink

I weigh in undies and a t-shirt, to be consistent.  I feel like a naked weigh-in would be like scratching and clawing at every ounce to get the lowest possible weight, but then I'd feel even fatter when I weigh in on the doctor's scale!

So undies and a tee it is.

I sleep naked and weigh myself first thing in the morning, so I do it naked.

Every month the week before my period I'm at the top of my weight fluctuation range every day and stay that way until the tail end of my period. I'm at my lowest end of the range the week after my period (I'm maintaining now).

i usually weigh in underwear. yes i have tried weighing in my birthday suit (and once had a thought HEHE, I SHOULD MAYBE WEIGH MYSELD IN CONTACT LENSES, NOT SPECS:) but it was a bit too pathetic:)

As a weekly treat, I sleep in really late on Saturday mornings so when I finally do get up is when I weigh myself for the week, naked, no glasses, nothing, I even take out my hair tie how sad it that.  But it I didn't I'd be making excuses for it (and I know my hair tie doesn't weigh 3lbs!)  I get on and off the scale 3 times, and it's almost always the same (I have a very reliable/stubborn scale, if I walk away and come back in 2 minutes it will still read the same)  I sometimes sneak and extra weigh in, but they don't get recorded on CC, it's mostly just to study my natural fluctuation.

i always weigh in the morning(every morning unless i have my period then i weigh sporadically just for haha's) after i go to the bathroom in the nude. i also gain  between 5-7 lbs and keep it until my TTOM is COMPLELETLY over i usually dont lose the excess weight till the day after it has ended.

it probably is either your period or if you had a little more salt than usualy anything can contribute to a minor gain just drink a lot of water and give a it a day or two most liklely just water weight
I weigh in the morning, too. I weigh every morning!  But I refuse to weigh myself the whole week of my period! I go up and down so much that it really frustrates me. So, for that week, I don't weigh. And when I finally do weigh again, it's nice to see a pound or so gone!

I track my entire cycle as a form of birth control and I can tell you water weight comes right about the time Menses will start. However, you can help avoid the extra water weight by not eating a lot of sodium or starch in the days leading up to your period.  For me that would be about two weeks from today. You had better believe I'll avoiding those water retaining foods too.

Also, I seem to be lighter feeling around the time of ovulation. I don't know that the scales shows that.

I guess I am a little more relaxed than other women in that I know body weight fluctuates and i am looking for an average monthly drop in body weight..not just a 3 or 4lb move of the scale.

The rules are strict for me when I weigh myself I must:

  • have had a good diet day the day previous
  • Be naked
  • have had bowel movements
  • have eaten or drank nothing so far in that day (still early enough for brekki though)
  • step on the scale slowly left foot first (don't know why but that makes a difference 3 set of scale I own)
  • The scales have to be in exactly the same spot in my living room

My doctor wanted to weight me but I refused to hear the answer I told him I knewI was over weight but if he tells me the number and its higher than I expected it would ruin me for the day. I think he though I was crazy.

I always gain during my period and it settles down about a week or so later which is kindof nice in a way as I get to see how well iv done the past few weeks all at once.

Lol well i strip down to my underware... no bra, cause some of them have wires in them and who knows, they might weight like, 100grams or something *gasp* lol.

Sounds silly but i still prefer to weigh myself without clothes...
