Basal Metabolic Rate?

Quote  |  Reply

So I've noticed that my weight loss has slowed down somewhat. I'm still losing, but less than a pound a week now. I thought maybe doing some research would help.

I went on a site that let me put in my stats and it gave me 1541.4 as my Basal Metabolic Rate. Assuming I do very little, which has become the case on many days since the weather has been getting colder, how many calories should I be eating in order to lose at least a pound a week?

If your BMR is ~1540, you should be eating ~1540. If you want to lose at least a pound a week, that requires burning ~2040 a day. A sedentary lifestyle with a BMR of 1541.4 gives a daily burn of 1850. So if you can exercise away an extra 200 calories a day, you should lose at least a pound a week.

But you do need to eat your BMR. This is what your body requires to keep your organs functioning and everything working properly.

Thank you!
