So I have IBS-C and acid reflux and take meds daily for the acid reflux.  About 1 month or so ago I've started seeing some blood on the toilet paper after either having a bowel movement or after having tried to do so.  It's not a lot but I'm assuming it's not a good sign either.

I'll make a doctor's appt but wanted to know if anyone had any idea what it may be from or has any experience.

Thanks!

I havent "went" since last Tues.  I went to the Dr. this morning for an unrelated issue & told him about it.  He said that it was common and to take Colace-one pill with every meal.  Nothings' happened yet.  We shall see......

omg! 1 week! that is nuts, nothing would fit me from all the stored up food! that can not be normal or common, eek, i hope you go!

 It's an over-the-counter stool softener.

I'm sitting here gurgling and feeling like something is getting ready to happen.

ahh, ive gone 2 plus weeks w/o going, its gd awful!  i had to use an enema!

its just so uncomfortable and my bottom even starts to hurt, stomach cramps, clothing wont fit midweek...

Agruskin- you need to talk to your doctor before you start on that. If you're on other medications can can harm the absorbption. Speaking of which, some medications can leave you constipated, including Antacids! I've found yogurt, increased fiber, and LOTS of fluids help too. If i start getting the pains where i know it's going to be a rough couple days i take a tool softener.

the enema?  that was only bc the doctor told me to use it, i have never even heard of it.

i eat lots of yogurt but dont drink that much during the week bc then ill keep running to the bathroom and i cant do that at work really?

i do take an antacid, for acid reflix, its called aciphex, i wonder if thats the prob?

my father bought psyllium tablets for me to try so when he gets home tonight--FINGERS CROSSED!!!

psyllium husks  you guys come-on.  It is natural you will be shocked!!!!!!    so easy.  you will never be constipated ever again

not the enema, the husks.

Listen, Luv, it CAN mess with the absorption of medications since it messes with the GI tract. It's REALLY important you separate it from medications by 2-3 hours. People don't realize the effects food and ESPECIALLY SUPPLEMENTS has on medication! I'm a doctor of pharmacy, trust me, it's my job to know if this is going to mess with medication.

The aciphex has cause constipation in clinical trials, you may want to talk to your doctor, but if you need it, it may be a risk/benefit sort of thing. Since all antacids MAY have this effect, there's not too many other choices beside OTC, which probably won't help you.

Luv, as kapp said, that sort of thing can mess with absorption a lot, and may not work for everyone - I would urge you to consider that what you say might encourage someone to not seek advice from a doctor when it is actually needed. It would be best for the OP to see their doc regardless since it is possible that the bleeding is an indication of a more serious problem or that their IBS is getting worse or needs to be re-evaluated.

I am not talking about her,  I am talking about the million other people on here sharing their comments that they cannot go the bathroom on their own.  She is not the only one sharing her story on here.   Ofcourse if someones bleeding,  I am not going to tell someone to take anything.    When you leave a comment on here it trails,  It doesn't put my comment in the middle of the threads.    And what I said in no shape or form did it imply for that person to not seek medical help,  If someone is bleeding from their rectum or anywhere else I would hope would have the intelligence to seek medical help.  I get so sick and tired of people taking things out of sorts on these threads.  We all share what works for us.  If everyone took your approach on such a vague comment of taking fiber,  these forums would never work.  We would all being walking on egg shells.  Many people have had the freedom to share different experiences and what worked for them,  I would hope that you can maybe start viewing these blogs/threads  as sharing not medical advice set in concrete.  Wink

I get it, but in my field, i see a lot of messes because of reccommendations.. which i don't even mind .. lol but when someone says "come on it's just husks" or it's just fiber (it is, but it's more than that).. it's literally my oath to step up. You are right, they can work for people, it's a great reccomendation, but not for people on meds if they don't know when to take them in combination with their medication (2-3 hours separation).  I'm glad you found something that will work for you, and HONESTLY it's something i can keep in mind to reccommend now if one of my patients in the community setting fits the mold. So thanks for your insight as well.

eek, so i took the psyllium pill, with the aciphex this morning.  my father got it from a client of his who is a nurse and told me to take 3/day.  i guess now ill wait til 3 hrs after the aciphex to take it?

yep. That way your body will actually already be absorbing the medication. When you take it together, you flush it just like everything else :( Meds are too expensive and too important to waste! lol

ugh, unfortunately nothing at all was  flushed out today since i didnt go today!

also, i really dont want to become dependent on a stimulant or supplement or whatever it is, in order to go to the bathroom???!

well,  that is the beauty of all this.  the freedom to believe what ever.  just hope you find what works for you.  I loved it because it is not a stimulant,  and fiber is a good thing for ibs to be dependent on,  even if you do not have ibs.  I am off all perscription drugs for ibs now.  I know for me that is healthy.  The drugs never worked anyway.  Just made the pharmacy a little richer.  I can see now why pysillium would be discouraged.  Wink

I STILL have not "Gone".  Called Dr. & he said to try MiraLax.  Has anyone tried it?

That is what Sansum clinic put me on.  It almost looks like salt.   I tried it for 30 days,  nothing happened for me.  If I remember right it made my tummy feel queasy after drinking it.  Have you tried it?

I finally went-after 1 week and 3 days!  What a relief!!
