Bay Area Get Together!

Quote  |  Reply

Okay.

I'd love to get together with a group of health conscious people and explore the city, go on hikes, find new places to eat, watch movies, etc,.

Problem is, I'm a bit shy when it comes to new people, in person. Thus, the internet is my refuge! Are there any other people in the bay area (San Francisco, Marin, Oakland, Berkeley, Daly City, Pacifica, etc,.?) who would like to join me for some friendly get togethers?

This can be weekends or weekdays after work, either way, I just want to make new friends with people that are same minded when it comes to eating well (we won't go to BK or McD's!) and staying fit (while we may watch a movie, we can also go hiking earlier in the day!)

I work in SF 8-5 Monday through Friday. I live in Pacifica :) Anyone else want to join in the fun?

Bay 2 Breakers is one of the best days in San Francisco!  You must go, even if you stop along the way!  I have done it for the last 5 years with my huge group of friends, but we party the entire way!  No running for us!  This is my first year missing it as I won't be home until June.  Frown

Hope you have a blast!  Go early in the morning too and keep your eyes open for the salmon running up stream...they have been going out there for years in their salmon costumes and now they have their kids with them!  Great fun for everyone...I'm sad thinking about missing it!

Moogs, I have been thinking about joining you ever since you mentioned the b2b in one of your journals a while back. I am pretty confident that I can handle the 7.?? miles although I have not walked more than 4 or so at once, but I think I can!!

Where would we all meet up?

I registered, so it's Moogie, me and you if you're going. I can try and get my boyfriend to go as well, but it's a long walk for him haha.

We could meet up a bit earlier in the morning somewhere and start walking towards where we need to be, because I know there's not going to be ANY parking anywhere near where the race starts.

I was just looking at this, and thought it would be fun.  I've lived within 30 miles of SF my whole life, and I've never been.  However, looking at the course, there's no way i'd ever be ready in 2 weeks.  :(  I think I should totally make it a goal for next year!

I hope you guys have fun, I'd love to hear what it's actually like.  Are you planning on running or walking the whole way?

Have any of you ever done the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge?  I did it a couple years ago, it was pretty fun.  I think I'll do it this year since it isn't until September, and that's enough time for me to get ready.

Oh there's no way I'll be ready either, but I figure, hey, gotta start somewhere!

I'll be walking/jogging the whole time, as I'm not in the best of shape. It's going to be awesome though!

I've never done that challenge...I did the AIDS walk 2 years ago, and that was a lot of fun :)

You have a point there on starting somewhere.  I'll see if I can get my husband roped in.

Although, in all likelyhood we'll be out at the Delta kiteboarding if there's wind (ok, him kiteboarding... me getting dragged through the water by a kite)

Lol :D Kite boarding sounds like fun too! I've always wanted to hang glide myself...

I just think that having something to work towards will make me get myself to the gym!

Hey all...I didn't mean to misrepresent myself as one of those people trying to win a prize by crossing the finish line first. I just want to cross the finish line before the course gets diverted. I'm planning on walking all the way in a silly costume so if we could get a theme going that would be awesome!

I have 1, maybe two other friends to join us as well.

I'll be taking the ferry in, so if anyone would like to meet up at the ferry building, that would be ideal for me. Otherwise, I'm open to suggestions on a meet-up spot.

Also Mykanos...if you can walk around a mall or Disneyland for 3+ hours, I'm sure you can do this too!

I just signed up for Bay to Breakers! Any other CCers up for it? Come on! It's only 7.46 miles...

This is on my bucket list so I think I'll join in on the fun!  But no jogging for me - I'll only be walking since I'm waaaaay out of shape!  I also live out by the finish line at Ocean Beach!

So, does that mean you're offering your place for the after party?  ;)

LOL sweet. I was just about to email you about this Michelle~!

We should all meet up somewhere near the ferry building, or somewhere near the park around 7 or so so we can get acquainted before going to the starting line!

Sure, we can have some drinks and apps at my place afterwards!

Hurray this is actually coming together! :D

Ok, so after a little pow wow with nasuoni, how does everyone feel about a bug/insect/creepy crawler type thing? Lady bugs, bumble bees, caterpillars, butterflies, spiders...ooh Adria, your boyfriend can dress as spiderman!

We'd like to keep the costumes casual/cheap/easy to make or find...etc

I'll be an adorable lady bug with spots on my cheeks!!! Gah this is gonna be so much fun!

When I made my ladybug costume I got a cheap red t shirt from old navy and put spots all over it with shoe polish. You can have my wings and antenna...I'm really liking the millipede idea for myself.

Now where to find 1,000 pairs of tiny shoes?

I'm thinking about going to goodwill and getting a red skirt, or trying to find a cheapy red tutu somewhere...hehe. :D And of course, some black sneakers are a must.

I'm going to go ahead and register and plan on it.  I also asked some of my good friends to join and they are planning to come too and also want to do costumes.  I know where the Ferry Building is but what park are you talking about?

I'm trying to figure out where the starting line is, so we can meet somewhere between the starting line, and the ferry building. I'll more than likely be taking Bart into the city, then walking to the starting line, as I live in Pacifica.

edit: ok the start line is down by the ferry building/ embarcadero, so we may as well meet at the ferry building at around 7:30 or so?

I just registered!  My BF is working that day but I asked a non-CC friend if she wants to join us.  This is going to be fun, fun, fun!!

Okay, I'll work on a buggish costume of some sort!  I am toying with the idea of staying in the City a a hotel near the embarcadero to be close at hand when it is time to meet up, plus that weekend starts my "week of vacation" so I feel like splurging a little on having fun.

Michellesf, that is way cool of you to host a little soire after the walk, I'll chip in or bring a bottle of something (I can stick a bottle of wine in my camelback!!)
