those of you on BC... need help

Quote  |  Reply

So i am currently on Loestrin 24 which i love... BUT... i recently switched insurance when i got a new job and now it is not covered under my new plan Yell

So, the insurance company told me that the following would be covered. Any of you have any experience with any of these and your recommendations? I did prefer a low dosage pill thats why i liked Loestrin:

June 1.5-30mg

Cesia

Apri .15-30 mg

Necon .5/35

Ortho Tri Cyclen 28

Yaz 28

Thanks!

I am currently taking the generic version of Ortho Tri Cyclen (Tri nessa). It works wonders. There is no extra bloating or weight gain. My cramps are gone, my acne has gotten better and PMS is minimal. The only problem I have with it is a bit of spotting a few days before I start taking the sugar pills (week 4). Otherwise, it's great. I'm not quite sure what sort of advice you're looking for, but I hope this helped!

I lave heard that Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo has a lot of bad side effects, however.

thanks! i don't want to gain weight thats for sure!

I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen, then Ortho Cyclen (or sometimes the generic Trisprintec and Sprintec) and had no problems with either until I started getting breakthrough bleeding.

I'm on Yaz now, and it's led to dryness, but it's much better than Loestrin 24, which gave me insane mood swings.

Unfortunately, everyone gets different side effects (you say you like loestrin 24, I think it's the devil) and you just have to try them til they work.

Apri is the first and only bp ive been on. I have had no weight gain or any ill side effects at all. It even helped clear up my acne as well.

I'm on Yaz and I really like it. It's made my periods a lot less heavy and my cramps aren't as bad. I also didn't experience any weight gain.

You need to try out and find what's best for you though. Everyone is different, esprecially when it comes to hormones. I like Yaz, but I've heard of a lot of people who had crazy mood swings on it.

A different route you could consider is going to planned parenthood. You may not be able to get the pills for free (it depends on your income) but you can at least get them a lot cheaper.

They may carry the pill you're currently on. If you don't go to planned parenthood, a good thing to do is ask your doctor which one of those she suggested is a "sister drug" to your birth control. I really hate switching birth control pills, because each one really does interact differently with your body.

Sorry if I'm rambling. I hope this helps!

Have you tried the generic kind of Loestrin? I'm on Loestrin 24, too, but my doctor said it's perfectly fine to do the generic kind. He said just to buy two packs at a time, and after using up the first 21 hormone pills of the first pack, take 3 more hormone pills of the second pack. That way you still are taking 24 days of hormones and your period is still only 3-4 days long.

By the way, I have a question about Loestrin. I just finished my first month and I never got a period. I'm not sexually active so I know I'm not pregnant, but should I be concerned I didn't get a period?

this is normal for this pill.. i know it sounds weird but i can't remember the last time i had my period (and i am not underweight). My OB/GYN said this is normal so i'll take it! Thats part of the reason why i wanted to stay on this pill as well! haha.

i'll have to ask my dr. i guess for alternatives. Thanks All!!!

I was on Loestrin for a very long time and loved it.

Currently I am on Yaz and my only side effects have been breast swelling/tenderness before period (which happens when im not on BC but this is the only BC that its happened on) and unfortunately lowered libido but that could be stress related.

I was on Ortho tri Cyclen and had a horrible experience. My mood would change drastically when I went to the next dose of pills.  Loestrin is mono phasic and tri cyclen is tri phasic meaning there are actually 3 dosage levels so the dosage changes every week. It was too much extra hormone shifts for me but it can help people who find mono phasic pills to be too strong.

I swiched from Loestrin to Microgestin when I changed insurrance. I wasnt coverd by my insurance but it was only $30 without it and they have the same chemical composition.

Good luck honey!

I take Yaz 28 and I haven't had any problems with it: no weight gain, no modd swings and my skin it's healthier, I don't have cramps (or if I have they are really light) and I used to faint because of them so...yeah it's good hahaha

When I started taking it I had some breast tenderness but I haven't ever taken any other BC pills so my dr said it was normal =)

I have taken Cesia before and loved it. No weight gain, which I definitely loved, and no real side effects that I noticed (except for a slight appetite increase). It's the generic brand of Cyclessa, incase your doctor happens to have that on hand instead. I know many doctors haven't heard of Cesia, and it's often hard to find information on it. I wish I could still take it, but it was offered at my college and I've since graduated, and neither my doctor or my local PP have heard of it. Anyway, hope this helps! Smile
