The BDG Game
I heard a Pink interview where she talked about a dinner party game she plays called BDG's ... Brag, Desires, and Gratitudes. Each person shares at least one of each - helps us to remember that there are so many good htings in life even when things seem tough
Who would like to share a BDG?
BRAG - I ate SO balanced and light yesterday all day that I was able to have real oil popped popcorn last night as a snack .... without going over calories or carb counts for the day! It was AWESOME!
DESIRE - that by the time I need to buy a new wet suit, I will not have to custom order it because of my size
GRATITUDE - Even tough I am technically overweight, I am fit and healthy, I am adventurous nad I am DONE having my weight stop me from doing things I want to do! Like scuba dive!
YES!!!!!!! How cool is it to see new posts!!!! AND hear happy news also -- although - Nancy - reading about your work life AND about Tina DID make my heart drop .... I am heartened that you found good news to share AND are willing to continue to pump up the good vibes on this thread. THANK YOU!!! I agree - TOGETHER - ALL OF US - we can get through July.
It is interesting that although each of us have our own challenges, we are able to give each other encouragement and have a wonderful wave of good karma flowing from which we draw strength. I think that is SOOO wonderful:):)
AND Yeah!!! for YOU!!! ranyave - I think it is AWESOME to reach a goal so soon AND being able to run!!! WOW!!! I am breathless at 100 paces - kudos to you!!! AND I am SO GLAD you get compliments:):) That is always so nice to hear:):)
Thank you for your compliments - I STILL kind of hold my breath every time I try my pants on :):) I guess it takes time to accept a smaller size - glad it is true BUT still almost not quite believing it:):)
Brag - I DID do my afternoon walk - it was cooler - the clouds had hidden the sun and that really made a difference.
Desire - for this month to go so well -- I have my sister and family here from mid July to the end of July and while they are here I want to continue to stay on track.
Gratitude - That MORE persons are sharing their BDGs. THANK YOU:):)
Also, congratulations Nancy on the good results of your blood work - I will hope the next time your numbers are in the range desired .. you are so close:):)
AND are there other nutritionists at your gym? I totally understand having a more intense overview of what you are doing nutritionally. It is such a great help AND from what you had said about her, she was excellent. I hope you will find someone else who can help you out.
AND my parents are doing well -- the last few days of Wimbledon are here and Mom and Dad are excited to see who will win. It is great to see them so involved:).
Next week more intense housecleaning begins and the following Tuesday - the 14th - my sister and her family arrive. By then I hope to have my strategy planned out for staying on track:):)
Wishing everyone an EXCELLENT evening:):) AND I will post tomorrow morning AFTER my morning walk:):)
Hug and happiness for everyone:):)
Brag - I DID my morning walk - and ran twice 100 paces - once in the 2nd mile and again in the 4th mile. My ankle does twinge a bit so I probably will just walk this afternoon:):)
Desire - that the weather stays pleasant for my afternoon walk
Gratitude - I am STILL on track exercise wise - did actually want to skip the walk this morning - and feel strong about staying on track nutritionally. I am on constant vigilence again the snack monster:):)
Wishing everyone a delightful Thursday!!!
Congratulations on doing your morning walk! You said 4th mile? How far do you walk?
Isn't that amazing??? RANYSAVE - lucia does 5 mile walks!!! I mean seriously, who does that so regularly? Very few people .... those of us on this site who are dedicated do it, but look at hte average person ... are they walking 5 miles + a day? Heck no! LUCIA you ROCK GIRL!
I am so proud to have been here the last couple months with you, Lucia, to witness the strength you have gained and the confidence you've gained. Jsut a couple weeks ago you didnt think yu could make it 5 miles ... and now you are adding INTERVAL TRAINING!!!! OMG that is AWESOME. Big round of applause for you!
Thanks for all the kind and supporting words ... I am staying on track right now and that's not been so hard, but I am feeling sad about losing Tina the nutritionist, about the possibility of losing my job after 9 years of working here for a company and for a manager that I think is really special and rare in Corporate America. I will keep moving along though and work through the hardships - it happens in life!
Lifetime Fitness should have 2 nutritionists on staff but they have not bene able to find a second to assist Tina. So she was SO busy and crazy trying to keep all the clients happy and well taken care of. It got to be too much for her and she is now goign to work for EMory Hospital which is VERY reputable. I am proud of her for this career move and she has told me in email that she will continue to help me along, but its jsut somehow not hte same. :( I hope they hire someone to replace her SOON as now my gym location has NO nutritionist at all, which is really a key part of their whole philosophy! they better get to hiring osmeone!!!!
So!
BRAG - I did a great "trick" during my personal training with Miguel this morning ...... plank hold on stability ball for one minute ANAD alternate lifting one foot at a time ... so basically a one footed plank hold on the stability ball for a minute. Serious progression!!!! Miguel was almost jumping up and down. I did 3 sets of these. It was cool! And I burned about 550 calories this morning before even coming to work!
DESIRE - going to mountains this weekend with friends and hope we all have a wonderful time, get in a lot of walking, hiking, and kayaking, and stay on track health wise - I think we are in the clear becuase I am grocery shpping so will control it all!
GRATITUDE - that I can come here and get lots of positive vibes ....
You all are wonderful!
BRAG - Did 2 mile speed walk this morning on a new running route. Couldn't run because I started feeling twinges in my knee and I didn't want to push myself into an injury.
DESIRE - to get enough endurance to run a 5K race in October.
GRATITUDE - that I can run at all. Everyday when I'm done running (or even walking) I am grateful that I can because my mom has never ran due to polio and the fact that a car accident 10.5 years ago should have paralyzed me.
WOW!!!!!! When I need the inspiration, determination and stength to do my 5 mile walk which I am trying to convert into running for 5 miles, I will think of these last 3 posts!!!!
This is JUST incredible!! I was thinking those negative ... who am I kidding, trying to even run when I am having so much trouble with this little bit of distance... type of thoughts AND settled for climbing the hill that is no longer a mountain twice during my walk tonight. I figured this was better than just straight walking AND would look nice as a brag:):)
I read these posts and KNOW THAT I am going to continue to TRY and do the run and I am sure eventually I will succeed!! THANK YOU all for your positive thoughts and BDGs.
Ranyave - I had read about how you were going for a marathon and I thought ... oh I would like to do that ...
AND Nancy had said that I should do the 5 miles which is almost a marathon when I first started that extra mile and to think of her who had done 20 miles for each of 3 days!!
AND I thought let me give this a shot and I felt miserable and now reading sokkamum's entry about wanting endurance I thought ... that is me ... needing endurance:):) AND the rest of your entry which I find to be inspiring and really puts things into perspective!!
AND then reading those glowing comments about me - Nancy - THANK YOU - I just never thought of it that way AND THANK YOU for making me feel special
AND EVERYONE ... THANK YOU for posting!!! YOU ALL HELP ME SO MUCH!!!!
Brag - I DID my 5 mile walk tonight - climbing THAT hill TWICE:)
Desire - that I can run 100 paces during every mile of my walk -- I figure let's start with that and maybe I can hook more paces together and eventually everything will be a run:):)
Gratitude - for ALL THESE POSTS !!! When I need help so badly, you ALL are here!!! YEAH!!!! for this thread!!! YEAH!!!!! for everyone posting!!!! YEAH!!!!
AND Nancy - THAT is incredible that you have that type of balance - THAT is a LONG time - and the calories burned ...just in the morning ...awesome!!! I also wish you a wonderfully happy time this weekend - it sounds like fun and with you buying the groceries it will truly be a treat!!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!
Welcome sokkamum:):) Your entry has given me a good time frame to try and work for - October would be nice to see if I can actually run this current 5 mile walk:) - and your entry has also given me an insight not to EVER take anything for granted. THANK YOU for giving me perspective... AND CONGRATULATIONS on your speed walking - I think THAT is just GREAT!!! I hope your knee is feeling better.
AND I WILL do my walk tomorrow AFTERNOON - my errands start very early tomorrow so no chance for a morning walk. However, I will do a morning post:):).
Wishing everyone an EXCELLENT evening and an enjoyable tomorrow - which is Friday!!! The beginning of another weekend!!! WOW!!!
Friday:):)
Just wanted to say Hi:):) and wish everyone a fantastic day:):) I will be doing my afternoon walk and will post afterwards:):)
Wishing you all the very best!!!:):)
Brag - I DID my afternoon walk - did not run the paces BUT I did climb the hill twice.
Desire - I am going to run the 100 paces every mile during my walk tomorrow morning.
Gratitude - I feel great:) Have stayed on track and look forward to a pleasant weekend:) All is calm.
I am thinking I am going to do the running in the mornings and climbing the hill twice in the afternoon. My legs and my stamina should get a different type of workout that way. At least I am going to try it that way for a week and see what happens:)
Wishing everyone a very safe and happy weekend:)
Saturday morning -
Brag - I DID the morning walk -- running a bit more than the 100 paces each mile AND even managing to run UP part of that hill - not quite half but a lot more than I had originally thought I would:)
Desire - that I can do as well tomorrow morning
Gratitude - that I did this walk -- I think this will be the crux for the month of July - the morning walk. The afternoon walk will be a luxury for the month of July since I am finding other things are taking priority and I will not be able to do it every day.
Gratitude 2 - that I am staying strong to be nutritionally on track - before I would have been anxious about my calories but right now my appetite is steady and the snack monster and cravings are at bay.
I find this thread - and site - to be very helpful and supportive and am very hopeful about July:):)
Although I will not be doing my afternoon walk, I will post tonight.
Wishing everyone a wonderful, happy and safe day:)
Brag - I have stayed on track nutritionally - eating more vegetables and fruits.
Desire - to walk tomorrow morning
Gratitude -- it has been a calm, peaceful day.
This has got to be one of my shortest posts LOLOL - All is well:):)
I hope everyone is having an excellent weekend:):)
I will post tomorrow morning after my morning walk:)
AND I woke up to thunder, lightning and rain!! So I closed my eyes and snuggled more deeply into bed and thought ... a luxurious morning sleep is good also:):)
I am hoping the weather will clear up for this afternoon's walk:):)
Otherwise all is well:):)
I will post tonight:):) Wishing you all a happy, relaxing day:):)
Brag - did my afternoon walk - just the straight miles -- no running and no twice the hill - it started to rain during the last mile and I just wanted to get it done and go home.
Desire - that tomorrow morning the weather is clear and I am wanting to get out of bed to do that walk... with the mini runs:):)
Gratitude - that the weather cleared up enough to do my afternoon walk... AND that I have stayed within the caloric parameters:):)
It has been a good weekend and I look forward to a GREAT week:):) I wish everyone FABULOUS days!!!!
AND I will post after my morning walk tomorrow:)
and so we start the week:)
Brag -- I DID my morning walk!! Woke up a bit late and thought I would not be able to do it because of the sun. However, it was heavily cloudy and I thought let's give it a go because one never knows. We have forecast of scattered showers today... AND I am GLAD I was able to do my morning walk.
Desire - intensive housecleaning begins today - I hope it goes easy flowing:)
Gratitude -- The walk was a good way to start today. Mom and Dad are doing well and I am hopeful all go smoothly:)
I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday!! I will post later on - either after my walk - maybe - or my first stage of cleaning - definitely:)
Hugs and happiness to everyone:):)
Brag 1 - GREAT day!!! stage one of intensive cleaning has gone well:):)
Brag 2 - Walked the afternoon walk - did the hill twice - and even did a mini run with two of the miles:):)
Desire - that tomorrow is just as wonderful - can not imagine it being better:):)
Gratitude 1 - that everything is going smoothly:):)
Gratitude 2 - Dad decided that since Wimbledon tennis is over so are the cheeseburger lunches .. so today it was spaghetti with marinara sauce:) AND I portioned 200 calories over 100 calories of vegetables and Yeah!!!! I can eat !!:):)
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day - I welcome tomorrow:):) Hugs and happiness to everyone:):)
Brag - I DID my morning walk -- I am now able to run a bit longer each mile AND also more frequently - on mile 2 and 4 I ran twice. I am going to try and run every half mile in the morning walks.
Desire 1- the second stage of intensive cleaning goes easily
Desire 2 - the weather is nice for my afternoon walk:)
Gratitude - I am SO GLAD my body does not hurt. I am also amazed that I can do this. Yeah!!!!
Wishing everyone an EXCELLENT day!!
BRAG- I lost 3 more pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Being down in the 220's again is quite a nice feeling for me :) It's been 6 years since i've weighed this little.
DESIRE - Cool weather for my evening hill workout.
GRATITUDE - That I get along so well with my in laws and was able to spend a wonderful 4th with them!
Brag - I'm finally seeing results in my weight loss. My boyfriend's mom noticed I had lost weight. And I had the strength to clean out most of the junk food from my desk at work so there's a lot less temptation. :)
Desire - To do well on my midterm on Wednesday. *crosses fingers* And to continue to keep up with my healthy eating.
Gratitude - To have so many wonderful people in my life. Especially my wonderful boyfriend, who is my biggest support group in weight loss, school, and life in general. ^.^
Hi everyone,
I'm back from my long holiday weekend and from yesterday, which I took off as a "mental health day." I woke up in the morning nad just couldn't move out of bed. I have a wonderful manager who helped me address depression 6 years ago, so calling her and telling her I need a mental health day is perfectly acceptable. Whew.
I feel sort of crappy again today - low energy and just sort of BLAH, which most of my friends at work have commented on as well ... it will pass. It always does.
I am so glad to see new posters again! Lucia - I am ASTOUNDED. I am certain by the end of this year you will be able to run the WHOLE 5 miles if you so choose! You know me, I love a physical challenge and love to see others getting into it as well and as long as you keep pushing yourself to do a little more your bosy will react and DO IT. Now that you are more active, make sure you are doign some good stretches to avoid injury! There is nothing more frustrating to me as when I am injured nad cannot physically do what I want! All that intense house cleaning also lends to more burned calories - so clean away!
yay for rocco ........ 3 pounds! WOWEEEEEEEE
foffles - doesn't it make you feel SO good when others notice all the hard work you've been doing???? Good luck with midterms!
BRAG - I didn't log yesterday but I went back and logged it today - I was sort of keeping track in my head nad what do you know? I was almost DEAD ON with calorie consumption yesterday. Whew
DESIRE - that my newest pup Happy makes it through her heartworm treatment OK ... she is at the vet for the treatment today, injections are done but the vet said she is uncomfortable so they gave her pain meds. My poor little (OK she's big) Happy ....... now for the next 30 days we have to keep her quiet and calm so that a wildly beating heart does not cause hte dying worms to break off in clumps which will cause clots nad well, we know what can happen when a clot forms ......
GRATITUDE - for Hemlock Hollow, my friends property in Farner Tennessee .... we were there for 3 days and had a wonrderful relaxing and fun time - especially setting off $350 worth of fireworks from atop a mountain that has a 300 degree view over the Appalachian mountains!!! GORGEOUS Will post some photos today or tomorrow
Keep on keeping on everyone .....
Hi:):)
How NICE to see other happy stories:):) Yeah!!!
rocconess13 - WOW!!! 3 pounds!!! THAT is just fantastic!!! AND being back in a range that was 6 years ago !!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I will continue to have hope:):) THANK YOU for posting:):) AND I am also happy to hear that you enjoyed your 4th with your in laws. Those will be such happy memories:):)
Welcome fofles:):) THAT is such a nice feeling to hear results from other persons... and GOOD FOR YOU!!! on clearing out the junk food from your desk -- I ALWAYS eat it if I have it around ... I know NOT to test my will power:):) AND I also will think very positive thoughts for you on your midterm tomorrow.
Nancy :):) it is SO GOOD to hear from you:):) AND thank you for your suggestion -- I thought the walking was enough stretching for my mini runs. I guess I will have to look up stretching exercises to see what there is:)
I keep on being surprised that I am slowly but surely doing a bit more. My big thing is to be consistent and I think of you constantly and all the other persons that have posted when I want to skip out. I always feel gratified afterwards so I just have to keep on going. I wait for the day when I just get up and say Yeah!! - stretch first - and then just run those 5 miles:):)
I am GLAD you stayed within your caloric parameters:):) and you also had a great weekend - I am sure those views are just breathtaking:):) I will also think very positive thoughts for Happy during this next month.
Brag 1 - second stage of housecleaning done!!
Brag 2 - I DID my afternoon walk - did a completely different route during which I climbed a LONG hill twice and the usual hill once. I am hoping these hills will improve my endurance.
Desire - that stage 3 of housecleaning goes well tomorrow - only 5 stages in all so we will be at the half way mark:)
Gratitude -- that everything is going smoothly - My sister and her family arrive next Tuesday and Mom and Dad are calm:)
Wishing everyone a relaxing evening:):) AND it was GREAT reading the posts:):) THANK YOU:):)
Holy smokes! I was just thinking what your sister and her family are going to say when they see the fab new Lucia?!?!?!?!?!?! Do you think they will be surprised? How many nieces/nephews are coming?
I am guessing that if you go over to the Fitness boards, you can find a lot of info on good stretching. For me when I am at the gym I use a foam roller to simulate a deep tissue massage, so that the fascia (sp?) releases from the muscle, thus reducing soreness and strain! But its not very convenient for home based work outs!
BRAG - Cam wanted mexican tonight but I and at first I said OK but then decided NO because I thought sashimi would be a better choice for me tonight - AND I had enough calories for about 8 ounces of sashimi and 5 potstickers (yes they were even STEAMED)!!! WOO HOOOOOO .... I was hungry because I had a carb heavy/light protein lunch and it just didn't hold me over well ......
DESIRE - that I stay calm and hang onto focus during this stressful time.
GRATITUDE - that when I said no to mexican and yes to sushi - which cam doesn't like - that he was fully supportive and added that he really didn't need that mexican anyway
happy evening everyone ....
