Beans!!! Confused once again!

Quote  |  Reply

I brought home red  kidney beans and on the back of the package it said 70 calories but I can not remember if that is 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup dried or cooked or what ever!

Anyway they turned out really good and trying to enter them I noticed something disturbing. The calorie content is about 200 per cup and the fat content is through the roof.

So please advise me on what beans are the right beans  to eat in terms of low calorie, fat and high protein!!! Thanks in advance for the help.

Personally I love black beans.

1/2 c is only 100 calories. Its normally about 1 1/2 c. in a whole can (which is 300 calories) And in my case thats enough for me to split between lunch and dinner.

If you measured out 1/4 cup that is probably your 70 calories right there. I still swear by calorieking.com for all needs like this. lol If you can find the specific brand you bought, that's even better.

If the beans you bought were raw/dried they contain 333 cals per 100g.  If the beans were cooked, canned & drained they contain about 84 cals per 100g.  There should be very little fat in kidney beans

Thank you for the info!!! I really enjoyed eating them and they were very filling.  whew!  I had thought that they were a good choice and again I appreciate the info.

I had thought about that web site but could not remember the name.  Thanks again for the heads up!  I will check it out.
