beans... how do you eat/buy them???
I heard a lot of ppl talk about eating beans for fiber/protein...
so do you buy canned beans? what type of beans? kidney? garbonzo? etc? do you buy them raw and then cook them?
just wondering some suggestions on how to eat/buy/cook them...
thanks :)

Black Beans is said to be the most nutritious. You can buy them dry and soak and cook them. Or you can buy canned black beans. I prefer to use the canned. According to the "World's Healthiest Foods" website, there is very little difference in nutritional value between buying dry and cooking it or buying canned. Now that is not the case with vegetables. Fresh produce is far superior to canned veggies.
I love black beans! I buy them canned, drain out the bean juice, mix in some finely chopped tomatos and cilantro, and use them as "dip" for baked corn chips. Great flavor, no fat, very filling.
yummm that sounds really good... i was thinking of adding them to salad and things like that as well. i also heard that by rinsing them off in cold water you reduce the sodium a bit.. so i'll do that too!
I keep all kinds on hand. In the colder weather I cook the dry ones, and in the hot weather I use mostly canned. I get the Whole Foods Market store brand of unsalted canned beans.
My favorites are pinto beans, garbanzos (chick peas), black beans, white kidney beans, and all kinds of lentils. I have them in the pantry at all times.

I usually use canned kidney beans in salads but my favorite use for them is to make a naked burrito. I take brown rice, shredded chicken, kidney beans, tomatoes, peppers, onions, cilantro, and a bit of chili powder and taco seasoning and mix it all up to make a burrito minus the tortilla. I think it's a really great healthy way to incorporate fiber into something yummy.
