Since were all here to change our weight, I was wondering if anyone had any relatively cheap beauty advice. OFFER ADVICE ABOUT ANYTHING
For me, the biggest problem is my acne. I have tried everything from proactive to lemon juice to prescription stuff.
Also, my friend told me that putting VASELINE on my eyelashes at night will help them grow. I havnt noticed a difference yet...but I'm just suggesting what I herd.
The cheapest and biggest thing you can do for your beauty:
Carry yourself with love, and smile.
My best way to treat acne is to just let it be. And don't cover it up, it gets it worse.
As for the eyelashes, vaseline doesn't do anything miraculous in growing them. It's just that the vaseline is accumalating on your lashes, making them seem longer. Just use mascara. :P
I dont know about vaseline making eyelashes grow, but it is really good at taking eye make up off.
as for acne, id see a dermatologist. i personally use clearsil and then use a good astringent. i use clean and clear.
Eye drops are excellent as a makeup remover. Especially eyeliner.
As far as eye lashes growing from Vaseline....doesn't work someone told be that when I was a teen and it just didn't make any diff.
For acne first determine if your problem is really just pimples or if you have blackheads that turn into the pimple. I had blackheads and "pizza face" by the time I was 12. Lots of doctors later and more money then i could imagine on products that didn't work my mom took me for a facial. And she extracted my blackheads resulting in less pimples and clear skin. It took time in the beginning I went 2 time a month and then once a month threw my teens. As an adult I went 3-4 times per year. Now I am going every month again but just because I like them. Acne treatment facials also work for zits but your daily regime would be a big park of its success.
My tips that I have lived by:
Wash face with dove or gentle cleanser 2-3 times a day (especially after working out)
toner
Moisturize
and only wear make up when you HAVE to. To this day I only wear eyeliner and mascara unless I have something going on or my pic will be taken.
I sometimes wash my hair, then condition and don't rinse it out. I go to bed with a towel over my pillow and then wash it out in the morning. For super-shiny hair, I do a quick rinse that only takes off a little bit of the conditioner, then blow dry and brush as usual. To disguise sunken eyes, use bright white shadow on the inner half, then use a darker color on the outer half and blend it into a continuum. (SP?) I use white and purple since I have green eyes. If you think that foundation is too thick, like I do, mix 1 part foundation with 1 part gradual sunless tanner lotion in a bottle and use that. Tan, moisturize, and apply makeup all at once!
As an older woman, I'm 60, I"ve learned alot - some things the hard way with results I would have rather avoided. Do not get sunburned, or use tanning beds - it will show up on your skin as lines and brown spots, or worse skin cancer. Even basal cell which I've had and left a scar on my chest. Luckily I haven't gotten skin cancer, yet. Also, the sun dries out the skin and as we age it causes wrinkling and those ugly brown spots.
As to products, I think it's more important how we treat our skin than how expensive the product. But you can find alot of good products at Marshalls or TJ Maxx that aren't too expensive.
1) keep your skin clean morning and nite - it's seems nowadays women focus more on creams and forget that washing and using a gentle exfoliator is key. 2) moisturize, and 3) sun block always and wear a hat, visor, ballcap.
What you eat is really important to the skin esp as we focus on losing weight. Fish and esp vegetables and fruits - I do a vegetable juice of : beet, apple, ginger, bell pepper, spinach and cucumber . Juicing allows me to get in more than I could ever eat, and drink alot of water.
Lastly, the worst effect on skin is gaining and losing weight too many times - because once you reach about 50 there is no retraction of the skin. The elasticity of the skin diminishes and their is no going back to the way you used to look.
Be gentle with yourself - stress is also really hard on skin
thanks barbarajean, this is awesome advice. it obviously works because you look amaaaaaazing. im 47 and havent worn makeup for years and tend to be lazy about my skin care regiment. i am working on being consistent.

I agree!
Stand up straight and smile -- makes anybody look better.
And, eat your fruits and vegies!
Baby oil is great for removing waterproof mascara.
Kristie, Thanks, I think the body/skin has a remarkable ability to rejuvenate if if we care for it. We all know this just from how our bodies and health bounces back after losing weight. The only obstacle is waiting too long to lose weight because like I mentioned earlier once you get over 50 the damage can be irreparable. Illnesses like joint problems - I have arthritis and fibromyalgia.
But I have found that with the loss of weight and thru juicing I have alot less pain. I am glad to see how younger women are smarter than us older women at being healthier because they start sooner.
I do always wear either a foundation and/or tinted moisturizer over sun block.
Bravo to the younger generatioh who have so many harder issues to face than those of us who grew up in the sixties!
The best I can do for my skin (and health) is to take an (infrared) sauna session... its my favourite beauty ritual... not just for my body, for my spirit too!:)
Give it a try!
Hey,
the following work for me:
skin: drinking at least 3 litres of water daily.
I used never wear make-up or any kind of foundation, so am unfortunately quite freckly. I discovered a tinted sunblock by Clinique with a 40spf. This works like a make-up base. I love it! Wish I had discovered it sooner. Am hoping the freckles will fade with time.
hair: about once a fortnight, I lather my hair in extra virgin olive oil, tie it up, wrap it in a towel and go to bed with it. Wash as normal in the morning. It makes my hair incredibly shiny and soft. I also never use a hair-dryer. I have long blonde hair, almost to my waist, and have never had split ends.
make up: I have just discovered make-up tutorials on youtube. The most amazing generous woman called Lauren Luke has set up her own channel to teach people how to apply make up. For free. She has done tutorials for brown eyes, green eyes, etc, and shows you step by step how to achieve HUNDREDS of looks. She also gives tips on brushes to use, colours for your eyes, hair, skin, etc. Pretty much everything you want to know. Wish I had discovered her sooner. She now has her own website - but her original tutorials are still on youtube. http://www.bylaurenluke.com/
nails: wear a clear hardener or clear varnish under your colour - colour is easier to apply, and doesn't stain the nails.
Good luck.

amen.
Anyone know anything about teeth-whitening? Since I began drinking coffee about a year ago, my teeth have darkened. I'd appreciate tips on getting back to white. I'm giving up the coffee btw.
what I've been doing that has kept my acne in check for the last month:
at night:
I mix up salt water in a spray bottle and spray on my face while I wash my hair.
Then I wash with a gentle cleanser, followed by a moisturizer and a 10% benzoyl peroxide acne cream on the hot spots (where I usually get acne). I got it from walgreens, its a little tube, it was $3.
In the morning, I wash with a salicylic acid cleanser, followed by moisturizer and the BP cream.
I don't use foundation, just powder.
Teeth whitening: use hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash morning and night.
A couple years ago I all of a sudden started to get horrible acne around my cheeks, especially. I had some breakouts as a teen but then my skin cleared up in my early twenties. All of a sudden I started feeling bumps all over and then my face turned into something I didn't recognize. I used proactiv for a while in my early twenties, which cleared up my skin perfectly. However, this time it did nothing for me. I tried absolutely everything. I endured months of using tons of cover up and just not feeling attractive anymore. Then, I started on birth control. Yaz, to be exact. (And don't believe the hype on the TV about it. If you're high risk then your likelihood of side effects is higher, but if you're young, don't smoke, and have no blood coagulation disorders you're fine.) My skin cleared up completely within two months. COMPLETELY. It's ridiculously clear and pretty now and I get compliments on it all the time. I also lost about five pounds on it! The progestin has anti-androgen properties so it blocked out those hormones that caused my skin to go crazy. I know it's the birth control because I went off it for a couple weeks and I could feel the bumps start to come back. Birth control is miraculous for acne. I hope my story helps! Good luck.
