Going to bed hungry-Does anyone else find...

Quote  |  Reply

Well first off- Can I just say that being hungry at night sucks? I've eaten all my calories for the day, sometimes more, and then at 11pm my stomach starts growling :(

I have found lately that when I go to bed hungry, I tend to be really hungry the next day, and am way more inclined to eat something bad for breakfast. Is anyone else like this?

Yup ive gone to bed hungry and then find myself wondering..well does this lower my metabolism is i dont eat anything, or is it too late to eat? I find that if i just go to sleep earlier it helps but of course i go to sleep late most of the time lol In the morning i compensate by eating a big breakfast. If you are too hungry in the morning drink a filling glass of juice or something, i drink choc. soy milk while i fix up my breakfast.

HELLO, I'm new here..I will sometimes eat a vegetable or a low fat low cal string cheese...I try to save calories for a 100 calorie popcorn ...if I am hungry it is difficult for me to go to sleep.. My husband will have a v8 juice- it starves off hunger..it really does..  Kim

I sometimes go to bed hungry and I lay there with my hands over my stomach feeling pitiful like a starving orphan. It's miserable so I've started scheduling in an after dinner snack or dessert every day that I eat after I put the kids to bed at 9. I know a lot of people don't like the idea of eating late but I figure it's calories in v. calories out and if you burn more than you eat in any given 24 hour period you'll come out ahead. I usually work out for awhile after the kids are in bed too but I'm in the minority there.

I go to bed hungry almost every night. :( It's kinda hard and really annoying.

If I have a "on-track" day I finish my calories by 630pm or so and just cut myself off the rest of the day. If I eat after I've had my allotment I tend to binge so I just deal with the hunger.

But, yeah, I feel ya. I keep telling myself to think of the new low number I might see in the morning.

If you don't eat for long periods of time, et: after 6:30... You metabolism WILL SLOW DOWN! Try having a scoop of whey protein an hour before bed at least, this way your metabolism will keep running strong, you won't go to bed hungry and you won't tend to over eat or eat the wrong things in the morning.

You will burn more calories at night and dip further into your fat stores as you sleep!

I also have noticed that I go to bed every night hungry as hell , but I hold off.Like tonight I ate my required cals but at 9pm I was really hungry, so I ate a plain ham sandwich and it helped a lil bit, but now I'm freain hungry again. So I think I need to go to sleep.I always tell myself I'm going to eat a big healthy breakfast in the morning, but when I wake up the following day I'm not really hungry anymore so thank god for that:-)

I find that if I eat all my calories by 7pm... I always get that urge to snack or nibble on something at around 9/10pm.  I think I might have to start adjusting my schedule to include a snack later so I don't feel guilty or go over by snacking on peanuts.  lol

I eat before bed.  Its a myth that you have to stop a certain amount of time before bed.

If you want to eat then, just plan for it in your daily meal plan.  It isn't a big deal.

I agree with for_zev.  If you're horribly hungry, eat something.  It's better to have a light snack and get a good night's sleep than to lie there with your belly growling, hallucinating about chocolate or waking up famished. Planning it in works best.  But even if you have eaten all your allowance for the day, an extra 100 or 200 calories isn't going to make a scrap of difference to how much weight you lose.

I am usually more or less hungry when I go to bed. Sometimes it can keep me awake for hours, but I have never gave in. In the morning the hunger is always gone until I start making my breakfast... Odd.

If I start getting that painful, empty feeling in my stomach before bed, I will eat a serving (usually 5 or 6 slices) of rolled up deli ham or roast beef. It fills me up long enough to fall asleep with only 60-80 calories and cures my craving for salt.

Well I have been on a 3 month binge (where they mostly occur a night). The last two nights I have not binged at all (woohoo). However at 2 o'clock last night I had the worst hunger pangs. Like my mouth was salivating and i felt like i was going to throw up. I know i am not really hungry, its just my stomach shrinking. I would just try to ignore it or drink a lot of liquids.

I usually have some air-popped popcorn with no-cal (supposedly!) butter spray. It's very few calories, but filling enough that I don't feel hungry at bedtime. I'm always starving first thing in the morning, though, but I like that feeling, and I really enjoy a hearty breakfast!

Try some sugarfree jello or a sugarfree fudsicle or popsicle.  They are very low in calories and they always send me off to bed happy.

That happens to me too. Or if I'm hungry while going to bed I tend not to sleep well that night which as we all know releases the appetite supressing hormone to be all wack and makes me extremely hungry the next day.

Yep-it sucks. Heck-I've even woken up in the middle of the night hungry. But you know what? I've also gone to bed after a binge and felt even MORE crappy (physically) and had the guilt issue to boot.  At least when I'm hungry, there's no guilt pangs. So again, it's all about choices. It's hard for me-(after I've had my calories) to "just" have a snack. If I start, it usually ends up to be a gorey story of mindless eating. For me, alot of it is like you said "feeling like a starving orphan" feeling like I'm deprived when in fact I have cupboards FULL of great food. I'm so lucky! It's a struggle every day for sure. It's so good to know I'm not alone-that no matter what struggle I've gone through dieting that SOMEONE on this site will have gone through the same thing at one time or another.

Ok maybe I am just weird but if i eat a snack right before bed I usually wake up starving. So I generally stop all food by 8 or so.. so I don't wake up hungry

Interesting. I have, on occasion, gone to bed hungry, and I wake up in the morning not very hungry like usual. It doesn't seem to matter whether I was full or empty before bed, it's the same.

i always make sure to save 100-300 calories for an evening snack.  i've always been a snacker, especially at night.  it really does suck going to bed hungry.

I usually try to eat something an hour or so before I go to bed... otherwise it will be hard for me to go to sleep.  But I can't eat TOO soon before I go to sleep, because I can't eat on a full stomach.  Also, if I go to bed even the slightest bit hungry, my body wakes me up starving the next day! sooo annoying.  Today is my sleep in day but my body woke me up at 7 am because i was so hungry!
