Is bee pollen really healthy?
Asked by mdstall on Jun 10, 2009 in Alternative & Integrative Nutrition

Answer

Bee pollen is plant pollen carried to the hive by worker bees, where it is mixed with plant nectar and bee saliva.  Bee pollen is nutritious but its nutrients are easily obtained from other foods. Proponents claim that bee pollen enhances athletic performance and strengthens the immune system, although those effects have not been reliably verified by clinical data.  Nevertheless, bee pollen continues to be used in the practice of traditional naturopathic medicine.  Read about bee pollen from the Guide to Alternative Medicine at About.com.
