I cooked, simmer, a beef tounge today. My god it is so delicious! I forgot how good it tastes. I will be making sandwiches for the next week. Hmm maybe going to try it with sobe noodles.
Funny - I just saw one yesterday and considered buying it. Im such a fan but realized I didnt even know calories for it.
I know it sounds unappetizing to some but its definitely one of those distinctive and in an amazing taste way meats. I used to have to have it cooked for me and then cubed so undetectable. My appreciation for it got me past that to where I can handle it (even pulling of the outer 'skin') and eat it in obvious tongue slices.
Some broth, cilantro, chopped onions is my fav but I'd enjoy it straight too.
The name is a turn-off. I've never had it, but might try it... Does it look like a tongue when you cook it?
when i've seen it in the store it looks exactly like a tongue! I couldn't even think of trying it cuz all I could see was a cow trying to lick me!
beef tongue aka "lengua" is soooo popular in the Mexican culture! Well, that and tripe... i grew up in east l.a and every taco stand or mexican restaurant serves "lengua", either in a stew, tacos or burritos. it's delicious. however, i've never actually purchased it and cooked it myself. i'll have to attempt that soon.
Yes just like a tongue but when you prepare it, sliced and cut up its appears as any other meat.
Its got the most tender consistancy Ive ever had eating meat. Not mushy but just amazing tender and melts in your mouth, probably from the boiling and the remaining broth is amazing too. The taste is amazing, very unique and delish!
Wow you people are really conservative when it comes to food. :)
Cooking it is pretty easy. You need to soak it in cold water for couple of hours, changing water frequently, to remove salt.
To cook it put it in to a large pot and cover with water so it's at least few inches above the tongue. Add salt, paper, celery, onions, herbs. Bring it to a boil then simmer about 50 minutes for each pound. When it's done put it briefly in cold water to make it easier to handle and then remove the skin.
