help! I'm 23, just moved to a town by myself and everyone I have met so far here in town drinks. I mean, get home from work, and sit on the front porch and drink in the nice summer cookout weather. I exercise a lot, but please give me some advice on this.
What sort of advice are you looking for? Whether beer could fit into your weight loss plans?
If you can avoid it though, drink some ice cold spring water with a lemon or something. 0 calories. =)
Why do you have to drink alcohol? Is it a no-no? Could you drink soda & say theres vodka or something in it? Or nurse one bottle to everyones 3-4?
Guiness is 125 cal per 12oz bottle and you really can't chug it- darker, thicker ales might be good because you aren't as likely to pound 4 of them and not realize it. When I drink lager (American style) beers, they are so "thin" that I can drink 500-1000 calories of beer EASY before I realize what I just did!!
Personally I find Guinness much easier to drink quickly than Miller Lite. Guinness goes through a reverse carbonation process which makes it smooth and drinkable. Miller Lite, on the other hand, is all bubbles. It makes me burp, which is fine when I'm with my girls at home, but not fine when I'm out. Also, just so you know, Guinness is actually one of the lightest stouts available. That it is a heavy beer is actually a myth.
I agree with the darker beer comments. When I was a heavy drinker, yes I gained a lot of weight with dark beer., But I was also eating a lot and drinking like a loaf of bread.
Darker, heavy beers actually help me drink less. And I've gotten out of the habit of eating a heavy meal afterwards. I prefer Sierra Nevada (Pale Ale is 175 calories per 12oz) or Skullsplitter (Scottish ale). And since I've joined CC, I've made calorie allowances for beer and wine.
I also had a friend who would sip on a glass of wine when she went to the bar. Holding a dainty glass and sipping really cut down on the drinking and she was able to socialize with people. (the bartenders didn't like her much)
good advice guys. I guess my question was when drinking, do you just look at calories like everything else or do you consider carbonation and other stuff? I feel like I've done really good completely cutting out cokes, but beer just takes the place. weeknights I can sit outside and not drink and there's no problem, it's the weekends that hurt me.
I'm a social drinker and LOVE wine. I have a few glasses every night and really enjoy it. I WILL NOT give it up LOL
BUT...I have sacrificed some other things like 90% of bread intake, pizza and potatoes and of course those pesky snack foods in bags. I have found that I am eating a lot more veggies and fruits with my little plan.
I dont see a problem. I LOVE LOVE LOVE beer and with summer coming BRING IT ON BABY!
I just make sure I drink light beer and I burn calories to make room for my beloved beer! LOL
~H~
glad to know I'm not alone!
so this has nothing to do with helping you avoid beer, but I too, am a beer connoisseur.
I can seriously put away half a case if I'm not careful and I love amber ales . Oh who am I kidding, I don't think I've met a beer I don't enjoy! They're so yummy. But, alas, the heavier ones are reserved for special occasions and when I do have one, it's only one.
BUT, I really enjoy Miller Chill (110 calories) It's kind of like a Corona and since I don't enjoy Corona Lite, it's truly an amazing summer beer, hint of lime.
Miller Lite is also my go-to beer (Milwaukee born and raised and German Heritage, go figure.) It's 96 calories a bottle (I think.)
I don't really like it, but a friend of mine gets a pint of ML with ice. She thinks it helps her drink less beer and she doesn't have to worry about her beer staying cold. You could nurse a beer on ice for awhile, warm beer is the worse.

Only if you're drinking lousy beer.
Let's face it kids, light beer tastes like light beer.
It all pretty much tastes like a stagnant water hole compared to a fine brew.
If I'm going out I want quality and splurge with a porter, lager, or stout from local micro breweries.
If I am going for quantity I go for Becks premier light 64 cals per bottle.

When I went to visit my friend in Ireland, she and her friends ordered Bud Light with ice. I thought it was really weird because in America it is such a no no to put water in your perfectly good beer. They all told me that Irish women were so happy when they finally got light beer there because they had drank so much calorie-packed Guinness for years.
i would recommend Becks Premier Light, its only 64 calories! its not the best of beer, but it has definitely saved my life a time or two, haha! its kind of like heineken, and it has to be real cold but it hits the spot for me.
Is Beer really worth it????
yes. beer is totally worth it to me. I heard of the becks premier light, but doesn't it have crazy low alcohol content?
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
