Hi everyone! I've been on here before but never really used the tools it gave me. I recently put batteries in my scale because it had been a while since I weighed and boy did I get a shock!! I am at the heaviest I've ever been in my life and there was a number I never thought I'd see. I cried!
My life has been stressful for the past 2 years with the death of my father and leaving my husband of 7 years. I am now in a good place with my grief and have a new person in my life who is very supportive so I'm ready to take on this journey of weight loss and self discovery. I want to be healthy for my 2 daughters who need me in their lives and I want to run and swim and do all the fun things having kids gives you a chance to do!!
My question is... where to start? I am insulin resistant so I need to watch my carb intake. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start with this new plan? I know I need exercise and I need more vegetables, but what else should I be doing to get the right fuel for my body so I can start shedding some pounds and feeling better?
I appreciate any suggestions you may have! Thanks for taking the time to read.

Welcome to CC. I am new here as well and started by entering the information needed for CC to calculate how much I burn and how much I should eat.
Next, I started logging my food and trying to stick to my calorie limit.
After a few days, I started logging exercise and activities.
All along I was browsing the site to learn more about healthy ways to lose weight. This site has loads of useful information.
Good luck with achieving your goal

When I first joined I spent some time browsing the Ask Mary archives. Lots of good, practical advice there. Also, if you go the forum library, there are some summary threads that offer great tips. I also love the success stories -- look at the blog tab for some of those.
I couldn't do as well as I have if I didn't log everything I eat as accurately as possible, and also set modest interim goals so that I don't have to focus on something that is really far in the future to feel successful.
Also, consider any movement at all (even a 15 minute walk) as therapeutic, not only for your body, but your mind and soul as well. Whenever I feel as if I need to eat mindlessly, I take a short walk, often I realize I am not even hungry.
Also, changing my lifestyle has been fun. After all, eating/moving is the one thing in my life I have 100% control over, and the improvements in my health have been quick rewards for taking contol. Good luck.
