I pretty much have a food baby all the time. I've come to accept it as a part of gaining.
My question is, what are the chances it'll be gone by this halloween? My costume may or may not include exposed belly, and I feel like one that looks like it could burst at any moment might now have the same effect...
if bloating is typical for you then i'd expect bloating. i wouldn't wear a costume that has the belly showing just because if you happen to be bloated it will ruin your night so err on the side of caution. if your tummy happens to be flat that day then smile and happily wear your costume anyway, no loss in not showing your tummy.
Well, bloating is usually gone by the time you are weight restored, or a few months afterwards. So if you are still some way from your goal and are usually bloated after eating, this will probably still be a problem for you come Halloween.
have you tried peppermint tea ? i have the same issues like meryl said it probably wont go until you are weight restored. you could always go as a pumpkin :). sorry im just trying to make light of it h x
meryl - do you mind if i ask how long it took you to stop having this problem? did it only settle once you were fully weight restored?
I am at my set point I think but my stomach looks like I have a basket ball in it. This is typical of my body when restoring weight and very hard for me but I accept it. Many do have this happen and everyone is different in how long it takes to balance. I am not sure if you mean you are just bloated or you have gained a lot in your mid which is different. Anyhow regardless why don't you just pick a different custume and that will take the guess work and anxiety out of this. This is not exact science and everyone is different but why torment yourself for the sake of an outfit.
If you are actually bloated and gassy, you could be experienceing a food intolarance. My husband used to be bloated nearly constantly, and since going off wheat, has a flat tummy (much to my supreme jealousy) nearly all the time. One tiny bit of wheat and 'glorp' bloaty distended belly again.
He's had other issues related to the wheat thing though - pain and other probelms besides, but wheat (and other intolerances) doesn't have to have pain associated with it to be a problem.
I costume for conventions, and something that works, depending on what you're doing, could be a flesh colored (or other colored, see profile photos ; ) )body suit. My goal would be to wear my costume(s) with no body suit, but it does help shape my middle a great deal.
Just a quick question... why DOES your belly bloat when you are trying to regain weight? Even if you're not eating bulky food to take up a lot of space, cuz I can understand that would stretch the stomach to make room, but if you eat a lot of things like nuts and maybe drink high calorie shakes, your stomach wouldn't need to stretch, so why the bloat?

I can't remember exactly, but I think the bloating would have been gone by the time I was weight restored.
ezzied - part of the reason for bloating is that during starvation the digestive system slows down and takes a while to start up again when gaining weight. Another part of the problem is simply that food in your stomach is much more visible at a low weight, whereas the extra fat and muscle on a normal weight person means your stomach is not able to distend as much.
Well again bloating and weight gain that is more in different areas is different. I have both. I bloat from ibs but I tend to regain a lot in my mid section. I have been told that this is common because there are organs and tissues that need protecting there.

Haha, actually, my backup costume is Juno lol.
And it's strictly the bloating that's concerning me, but I guess it's pretty safe to say I'll most likely still be bloaty by halloween...ah well, maybe next year...
Juno, lol
XD
ive actually been having problems with bloating myself..it totally sucks.
ah well, i hope it stops as i get closer to my goal weight !
Ugh I have this. It's wierd - throughout upping and gaining, I had preeeetty minimal belly bloating. Then just two or so weeks ago, I bumped up my calories another 100 cause my gaining was slowing down and my stomach POPPED out like nothing! It's not going away, either :( I'm trying the peppermint tea and green tea business but it's not working :(
I can't wait till I'm FULLY healthy and it just effing goes away!!! :D
