Belly fat

Quote  |  Reply

I'm 5'5 and 120 lbs, so I'm a healthy weight but after having my second child 2 years ago I cannot lose the fat tire around my waist.  Does anyone know of a workout program or diet that addresses this issue?  Thanks!!!

You could try toning up the abdominal muscles with things like ab-crunches and sit-ups.  You could also try to get rid of water retention.... a common cause of a 'podgy middle'.

Drink at least 1 litre of water a day... more if you exercise.  And avoid foods that are heavily processed, highly-refined or high in salt, sugar and preservatives.  Don't drink caffeine, alcohol or fizzy drinks for a while.  Cook your own meals, for example rather than using prepared meals or packet foods.  And eat more fresh fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, lean proteins....
lisa, you do not say whether or not you excercise.  In addition to a healthy diet, you do need to excercise and work at your core (belly) especially after children.  It doesn't take that long, but, if you want better abs strengthen your core.  Look into in mags, on line research.  This is one bit of info I found on line.  Hope it helps.

My guess is that it isn't fat. It took me 10 weeks of 3 min+ ab work / day to get my abs back in shape. Crunches, side crunches, leg lifts, bicycle crunches, rows, etc. I also had abdominal seperation during my pregnancy which made it extremely difficult to do anything at first. I had my most weakness in my lower abs. I still have to do a lot of leg lifts or I bust out.

The work was worth it! 5'5 120:

You can do it!

Hi Lisa,

I found the best exercise to lose my belly fat was walking!  A nice brisk walk, at least an hour every day, all at once, or in two sessions will work too.  But an hour a day minimum is essential, and at a fairly brisk pace too.    It took six weeks before I really started to see results, but oh boy did my tummy start to shrink!  Good luck!
