Thanks for the tomato warning.

All fruits and veggies should be washed before eating. Laughing

But tomatoes that have been contaminated by salmonella don't get "untainted" by washing ... only cooking kills salmonella.

I understand that.  That was in the memo we got at work.  A few restraunts in town have stopped using tomatoes all together.

Thing is we live within fifty km of the largest tomato town in our province.  There are a lot of processing plants in our area, including Heinz and Primo.  Not good for the economy in our area.

It would help if they found the source of the contaminated tomatoes.

It's only certain types of tomatoes though.  So all the rest are still good to eat, especially home grown ones!

I am eating my tomatoes regardless of warnings! ):

I JUST bought some Roma tomatoes last night because I thought it was only the large tomatoes that were affected. I wake up this morning and hear the warning has been expanded to include Roma tomatoes. I'm so mad! I'm on a grad student budget and buying fresh produce is a big deal. Do you think the supermarket might take them back?

so sad...went to eat at cheesecake and they dont have their pico de gallo!  i live on that with my salads there.  they are a very corporate establishment and are taking no chances with the tomatoes, so no fresh tomatoes there.. boo..cant wait until they get it back...

I know I was so ticked going out to eat tonight and everything I like has tomatoes in it....

Thank God I get my tomatoes at the local farmers market I'd go into withdrawal!

cherry and grape tomatoes are supposed to be ok (my favorite snack so it's good I can still have them), as well as tomatoes on the vine.

Hey, kymodoke, I would definitely take them back.  I'm pretty sure my store would cause they are local and have great customer service.  You should at least give it a try and if they say no, ask for a manager.  Good luck!
