I've lost 10 pounds, which is great, and all -- but no matter how much weight I lose, I'm never going to have a 24 in waist.

I'm 5'0, and 110 lbs - and I have a 29 inch waist. But even when I was close to a minimum healthy weight in highschool (around 98 lbs) my waist was still 27 inches. I guess I'm just "short-waisted."  Ugh -- why?

You're right--some of us will never be hourglasses.  I have straight hips and have never had a defined waist, even at my thinnest (5'6" and 104 lbs, in jr. high, after a month of flu.  You could see every bone in my body, but no waist.)

You can dress yourself into almost any shape you want, though.  Just ask Tim Gunn.  *g*  Remember, at one time flappers bound their chests to look boyish, and Victorian women wore bustles to mimic a huge posterior.  Body shape fads are some of the cruelest ever--like the current bony thinness craze that causes girls to harm themselves--and, unless you're born with the right shape at the right time, there's not much one can do about it, except to learn What Not to Wear.  ;)

Well that’s my goal, but whether I can get that small I don’t know I have never been that small I will be happy with 26-27in.

I am 5’5 177 42-33-46 medium frame.

PLEASE EVEN WHEN I WAS 20 I LOOKED LIKE A BOY FROM BEHIND. AND I AM ALSO CURSED WITH A LACK OF WAIST ? I THINK NOT... LETS JUST BE HAPPY TO BE OUR SHORT WAIST SELVES !!!

5'3, 29" NATURAL waist, (32" bellybutton waist) 130 lbs.  WHAT?  you mean to say i won't have that 24" waist?  rubbish.  i'll diet and exercise my way to it!

haha, i'm kidding.  i have a feeling that even if i do lose more of the belly fat, my waist won't get much smaller.  i do envy those with tiny waists though.  and womanly hips.  and big boobs.  i feel like a little girl still.  and whenever i go out without makeup...well, i get asked what HIGH school i go to.

uh, graduated from college last year?  but i'm praying i look young well into old age!  :-D

Yeah.. don't worry jen, you aren't alone. I just turned 20 and people seem to think about more like 16-17 years old. :( I'm sure someday I'll look back and be glad I had a youthful face... I guess. Anyway, my goal is at 24'' waist. Currently, it's 26.5'', which seems like it's not that far from my goal. But idk.. that tape measurer isn't really budging
i think it has to do with the rib cage width...thts why there are desperate celebs who undergo this bizarre surgery where they remove a part of the lower rib cage so that the waist will appear narrower...it's nuts. my older sis is of average weight, she has a curvy spoon shaped body and she's a 34-25-38...but me on the other hand, at avg weight, around 130-133lbs, my natural waist is at 26.5-27"...i'd probably have to lose another 20 pounds and have a washboard chest + flat hips before i can even get a 24-25" waist! so i guess i can realistically expect to get down to 26" after losing a few more pounds... atleast my boobs and butt will still be intact! don't worry...there are tons of women out there just like us.
I was told I have an hourglass figure.  But I'm a guy so pretty sure thats a bad thing.

Wow! I feel *so* much better. Somehow, it does make it easier knowing that there are tons of other people in the same boat.

I'm also one of those 21 year olds who gets carded at R rated movies, and to buy cough medicine at Walmart. Maybe the no waist thing is the karma for looking young? lol.

As for ribcage -- that's definitely part of it. I personally have barely an inch of space between where my floating rib (those ones that celebs get removed *shiver*) and the top of my hipbone. So there really isn't *room* for my waist to go in -- otherwise there would be no place for my organs to be. But -- I also think that there are plenty of people who technically have the room, but are straight up and down -- so even having the length doesn't guarantee the curve factor.

Alas -- I just try to keep in mind what my mom says -- "You walk down the street today and see how many people you want to trade faces with." haha.

I'm still hoping to lose another 10 lbs -- and hopefully as rainydayz put it, my boobs and butt will still be intact. If not? Well, I doubt it will be a real struggle to put 10 back on. :P

Oh and justg -- you are hilarious -- and perhaps you already know this but it's *so* not a bad thing to have an hourglass figure as a guy -- lots of football players do -- it just means that your shoulders and your hips are about even and your waist is smaller. not necessarily a 'curvy' or feminine shape.

I HAVE A 25" WAIST!!!

bad news though is im so pear shaped i have 40" hips :-(

currenlty 140lbs and i know when i lose weight i lose it from my top half only so my waist can drop down to 22" but ill still have 40" hips which makes my bum look enormous.

So basically doesnt matter what we are blessed with, small waists etc we all have our own problems
