What are the benefits of apple cider vinegar?
Asked by anonymous on Jul 27, 2009 in Weight Maintenance

There is lots of material about apple cider vinegar in reducing weight, clearing out toxins, suppressing appetite, promoting energy. I am unclear why this site says not true.

Answer

Apple cider vinegar is a folk medicine remedy with many uses.  But there is no solid scientific evidence to show that apple cider vinegar, or it's main component acetic acid, has a role in weight regulation or flushing out toxins.  A 2009 study showed that laboratory mice fed acetic acid with a high fat diet gained significantly less body fat than other mice - but mice aren't human.  Still, there is no reason not to take apple cider vinegar.  It cannot hurt, and so if you find it to be an affirmative action, take a few tablespoons a day.
