I really like this site to help keep me on track, but I hate it when I go out to eat and I have to "guesstimate" the nutrition facts. I ate at a sushi place for lunch and had a yummy bento box. It was filled with things that I know are not great for you, but it was good. Teriyaki chicken and veggies, rice, salad, fried dumplings, and four itty bitty pieces of a California roll. I did not eat all of any one thing except the Calif. roll. I did not feel stuffed. But I have no idea how to enter that on my log. I just went and tried to frind similar foods although I have no idea of the exact portions I ate.
Anyway, I just hate having to guess, but then again I hate feeling like I have to eat only things that I can get a nutritional value for. Anyone else feel like this?

I hate that too!
I sometimes do a little fake 'recipe' with all the ingredients i can remember and use that as my guess. I try to err too high instead of too low on my guesses. I treat my guess as a range of acceptable calories and try to plan the rest of my day around it maybe being high or low.
Then, after all is said and done, I work out extra hard that night and let hunger be my judge of whether I guessed TOO high and need more food. And then, I tell myself that one bad guess isn't going to ruin my new eating plan.

I hate it too. Someone just brought in chocolate cake to work and I had a slice. No biggie. but when I went to log it...there were entries for chocolate cake ranging from 200 cals to 1200 cals. It was on the decadant side, so I made an educated guess. Still. I hate not knowing.
Okay, maybe I'm weird, but I swear I can tell - intuitively - how many calories are in a meal I just ate. Maybe not exactly, but I sure could tell you the difference between a 200 cal chocolate cake and a 1200 calorie one. And I definetly know when I've overindulged because I end up with heartburn to pay for it. :-)
For me the only worrisome thing in that bento box was the fried dumplings. The rest is pretty lean. You do have to watch it though with teriyaki: it is loaded with sodium. I made some homemade teriyaki dish a few weeks back, and even though the calories were low, the next day my weight shot up due to the sodium overload. So don't freak too much if you have the same effect tomorrow.

i hate guessing, but i hate not joining in normal social activities more! i had to make a guesstimate today because i was at a training where they served us lunch. for me, there were so many different items that i just can't really go through each one and figure it out. i figure 500-600 calories is right since i don't feel stuffed now. i change my guesstimate a bit throughout the day depending on how hungry i get later. i just try to get the lightest/healthiest thing(s) i can, guess the calories and move on. what can you do?
