Was just wondering if anyone knew what alcohol has the lowest calories?
I have a very busy social life and don't want alcohol to affect my calorie counts too much but don't enjoy going out and being the only person on water or diet coke!
any suggestions????????
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Foods
keep in mind that an ounce of vodka is something like 60-70 calories.
i usually just get vodka soda with a twist, or van gogh espresso vodka straight up (so yummy)
another really good drink is raspberry vodka with diet 7up
if you're out for japanese food, get sake. its only 31 calories/ounce
Beer and Wine are usually the lower calorie options, but when I want something different I drink Captains Spiced Rum and Diet Sprite

Wha? Beer and Wine are the higher calorie options, vs something like Liquor + Diet soda. Of course all the sugary mixed drinks are waay up in calories, but I assume if your dieting those aren't even in the discussion.
If your thinking along the lines of Alcohol per Calorie, the hard stuff is a lot better. Remember that the calories in beer are generally reflective of the alcohol content, so "light" beers may give fewer calories, but also not much alcohol, and are often not really much better in Alcohol per Calorie.
My conclusion has been that if I'm going to drink a beer, I drink a single good one vs 2 light beers or something like that. Still, beer can bring in tremendous calories, and if your looking to get a buzz, light beer is useless, so there really is no "good" beer for dieting.
With wine, its something like 650 calories a bottle, which is generally better than beer. Still not on par with the equivalent in alcohol of vodka, which is probably closer to 420 calories (paired with Diet Coke to make it semi-palatable).

Actually wine is generally a little less than 500 calories per bottle.
Even if you are the only one not drinking, if you get one drink, then just hold a cup for the rest of the evening, no one will even know. Esp if you get diet coke and just tell people its a rum and coke or something.
Don't be so worried about what they think of your drinking habits! Do whats good for you!

Look it up on Calorie Count, they list it as roughly 640, which is about what I see on other websites! Where do you get 500 from? I've never ever seen it listed that low.
Absinth.

I don't think it makes any difference. Moderation is the key. Which drink can you nurse the longest? For me it's pastis and water. Wine can be gone in a few gulps, especially ice cold white wine on a hot day.
I sat down and crunched the numbers for a few things today. My goal was to figure out what would get you the most drunk for the fewest calories (obviously not the goal in general, but I figure if you are looking to get a buzz/keep up with the company, but do it at minimum calories, then this is a good starting point).
I was surprised that Wine is actually darn close to Vodka/Diet Coke. The pertinent column is the last one - how many calories you consume per ounce of alcohol. They are all one serving, except for the wine, which I did a bottle (its all adjusted to be per ounce of alcohol, so using the whole bottle was just simpler to start with). Dogfishhead 90 is a really strong/good/expensive beer I threw in for comparison. Vodka (plus any zero calorie soda) wins, but only by a little over the Yellowtail red which is a pretty generic/cheap wine.
Ounces--Alcohol%-- Calories----Calorie/Ounce----Calories per Ounce of Alcohol
Dogfishead 90 Beer
12.00----0.09-------300.00--------25.00------ -----------277.78
Bud Light Beer
12--------0.042------110-----------9.17------ ------------218.25
Yellowtail Red Wine
25.36-----0.14 ------640.00-------25.24-----------------180. 26
Svedka Vodka Liquor
1.50-------0.40-------103.50------69.00------ -----------172.50
Well, personally, I don't drink Diet Coke/Diet Sprite etc mixed with hard stuff. I find that they are too easy to gulp down, or if you mix one can of Diet Coke with one ouce of hard stuff, then that is a pretty damn diluted drink. I prefer sticking to light beer like Coors Light or Sleeman Light (which don't taste like water too much), or a glass of wine (I prefer white). If you alternate with one drink and one glass of water, there usually isn't too much damage at the end of the night, and you get to enjoy what you like.
an oz of malibu coconut rum has 51 cals -> mix with diet coke -> drink in excess

Miller 64 and/or Becks 64 - both GREAT BEERS with only 64 calories!!
blasphemous
anyway, when i'm not watching my weight i drink very high calorie beers. when i am watching my weight i stick with red wine -- generally higher abv and much fewer calories.
i heard somewhere that vodka is the most diet-friendly alcohol. if i remember correctly someone once told me it's even atkins friendly.
