What's yours?

I'd have to say Children Underground simply because it's haunted me for YEARS but it also kept you glued to the set just hoping that things would turn out for them... I've stopped thinking about them.   I mean, I have NOT stopped thinking about them. haha

Anyway, what's your favorite doc?

I haven't seen too many documentaries but I like Jesus Camp. Alternately funny and disturbing.

Ooo! I'm going to rent that! Thanks

Best Documentary.

Hands Down.. Planet Earth.

I really liked the one Al Gore did about global climate change (blanking on the name right now).  I thought it was really well done and, actually, entertaining.  I don't know how anyone could argue with all of that evidence.  It really made me Al Gore fan too.

I saw Born into Brothels but wanted more from it.. I don't know. The fights with the mom's was crazy.

I've also seen

  • My Brother's Keeper (pretty interesting! )
  • Zoo (don't bother)
  • Capturing the Friedman's (ehh, it was OK)
  • Devil's Playground (ok)
  • Girlhood (really good)
  • The Letter (kinda boring)
  • SuperSize me (interesting)

I haven't seen the Al Gore one (Inconvenient Truth?) but want to and also, I've never seen a Michael Moore film either.

Ditto - That entire series was amazing.

I also liked Jesus Camp - Funny, yet disturbing.

Is this the right Planet Earth that you're talking about?   I'd like to rent it.. I love good documentaries!

I haven't seen it.. I'll let you know after I watch it though!

Has anyone seen the HBO documentary, "Thin?" I've always been curious to see it and was wondering if it was worth actually buying.

i actually saw Thin on youtube, probably got taken down by now though!

Yeah, I've looked for it on there and yes they sadly took it down. :(

I have a pitiful group for Doc film lovers for reccomendations and discussions and what not.  But it's got no members.  Cry

I'm really interested in watching Thin as well. I haven't seen many "good" documentaries that I remember the names of. My brain sucks with remembering names.

They have the book Thin at Borders. As for the movie? It was a Showtime special, so that's a good place to start looking.

I liked "Word Play". Its a super-nerdy documentary about an elite group of crossword puzzle enthusiasts who go to a yearly contest to see whos the best. It also contains random intermitten interviews with people like Jon Stewart and Bill Clinton who regularly do crossword puzzles. My husband thought it was boring. I thought it rocked.

Oh! Also loved "The end of suburbia" and "Who killed the electric car?"

I enjoyed this one so much I bought it. I check the website from time to time to see how the kids are doing. Almost all of them are still in school or are in university now.

There's one a saw about homeless kids in Romania in the sex industry. I can't remember the name but I found it particularly haunting. I occasionally think about the kids and if they were able to get out of that situation...

Be Like Others.    Very disturbing from a Canadian perspective.

I found Jesus Camp to be horrifying as well.  It made me throw things at my TV.  Not really, but I did end up yelling a lot and my boyfriend got a little annoyed.  I also liked Thin.  Transgendernation is quite interesting.  It was a series of documentary type shows.  I liked The Buisness of Being Born.  Deliver Us From Evil made me want to vomit, but it was a good documentary.  For the Bible Tells Me so is wonderful.  I am a big documentary person.  I can barely get through a movie, but put on a documentary and I'll watch the entire thing.

That's totally disturbing. I'd never even heard of the phenomenon.

I watch nature documentaries so Planet Earth, The Blue Planet, Life in Cold Blood, Life of Mammals, Life in the Undergrowth, etc etc etc, rate highly for me.

How can I make walking fun?

You have to find a way to make exercise fun or else you won't do it. If you walk indoors on a treadmill, I recommend moving outdoors into the fresh air... Read more
