The best fruits

Quote  |  Reply
To me the best fruit ever is blueberries.  I eat them mixed in with my cereal, fruit salads or on their own.  What are the benefits of your favourite fruits?  I would love to hear of some unsusal fruits.

Right now I'm crazy about kiwis!  Although I love blueberries, too.
In my opinion, raspberries are like, super fruits. They are super low in calories (60 per cup), super jam packed with fiber (8g per cup), and super packed with antioxidants (manganese and vitamin C)! Did I mention that they're super?

Unfortunately, the naughty little buggers are always so expensive. Even if you do cave in to buy them, it's hard to find a pint where half aren't spolied or smooshed. Plus, they don't keep very well and are frail. Why must you be so difficult my tasty friends? ):

So true, blueberries are very exspensive.  I think anything good for you is exspensive.
Maybe I sound boring because this isn't very exotic, but my favorite fruit is bananas.  You can do so much with them.  They're great with peanut butter, in oatmeal, in PB&J's, on pancakes, in desserts, in milkshakes, or just by themselves (I like them super-ripe!)  And don't forget banana bread!  *drools* What I wouldn't give for some banana bread from my pre-diet days!  But aside from their deliciousness, they're packed with fiber and potassium, which is great for those who work out and sweat alot!  Plus the potassium flushes out sodium and helps with water retention!

I agree with bananas!
I love smoothies made with acai berries.

"The acai berry is loaded with antioxidants, anthocyanins (approximately 20 times the amount in red wine), amino acids, essential omegas, fibers and protein. Some recent studies from the University of Florida indicate that Acai may even fight cancer cells: "Brazilian berry destroys cancer cells in lab, UF study shows".

Second choice would be goji berries.

"Goji berries are incredibly nutritious. For their weight -- a daily serving is only 10 to 30 grams -- goji berries have more vitamin C than oranges, more beta carotene than carrots and more iron than steak. Beta carotene is believed to help fight heart disease  and also protects the skin from sun damage. Goji berries are also a good source of B vitamins and antioxidants, which protect against harmful free radicals that damage cells in your body. They?re also rich in polysaccharides, which aid the immune system, have 18 kinds of amino acids, and are a rich source of potassium."

If you love raspberries, try growing your own.   20 plant( 20 ft row) will give you raspberry bliss for weeks.  A fairly long term commitment though since it will take about 3 years of good growth before you get a satisfactory production. (and a certain amout of fussing to get peak production every year- a spot with sufficent sun firt to be found, then watering, feeding and pruning) Consider the price of raspberries well worth the effort (especially if you can get the right varieties to grow)-nothing like been away for a a day or two and comming back to the smell of unpicked raspberries heavy in the air of your little patch in the middle of the city.  A bliss no room fragrance can match- food for the soul .
try the pluot! It's a plum and an apricot. It's not as tart as a plum. and the middle is such a pretty color.  its my new favorite fruit.

Don't forget about Acai Burn ;)

Another vote for bananas - IMO, the perfect pre-workout, breakfast, snack, and dessert food.  (Not too many, of course...)

I'm also a sucker for fresh pineapple and big ripe strawberries.  (Vitamin C!)

This **** is bananas, B A N A N A S!

Grapes and apples are awesome too. Has anyone here ever tasted a grapple? i'm dying to try one!

I'm having a tye between blueberries and apples but my favorite fruit juice is acai berry w/ mango juice. I want to try real acai berries someday! :)

+ I also like unsweetend shredded coconut --- fruit, righttt?

OH YEAH! I love banana's in oatmeal, pancakes, on waffles, in smoothies, in dry cereal, on ANYTHING sweet. I'm not really a fan of them alone though.

There was just an article on the New York Times website about how awesome berries are--even the frozen ones. It's worth a look.

And for the record, my favorite fruit this time of year is apple, especially heirlooms like Roxbury Russet or less-common hybrids like Gingergold.  But when they're in season, I LOVE strawberries.  I buy them at the farmers' market, and I have to really stop myself from eating them all before I get home!

Best fruits: peaches, pears, papaya, mango, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple & bananas.
