Best Global Vacation Places

Where have you traveled to? What are your favourite vacation places? Exotic (i.e., the lesser beaten path) locations are most welcome =]

went to italy and visited Venice... I really loved looking at Venice from the Lido.

Amazazing!

does Vegas count as exotic?

Cabo.. ha! I've lived in Cabo San Lucas for the past 3 years and love it!

Other places? the rest of Mexico, Belize (wow!), the Bay Islands in Honduras (my country of origin), Costa Rica, Peru, Southern Chile...

The best time I ever had on vacation was sailing Drake's Passage in the British Virgin Islands.  There are so many little picture perfect islands, and plenty of ports where you can have fun.  I especially remember the bay on Joost Van Dyke - just a strip of beach lined with little places where you can get lobster and whatever else was caught that day.  The bay is filled with boats of all kinds and people socialize from boat to boat.  We snorkeled all around Green Cay, and also around the big rocks on Virgin Gorda, had fun on the beach on the north shore of Tortola (Rhymer's restaurant is there),   You're never out of sight of an island, the water is crystal clear so you can see down to 70 or 80 feet.

I've been all over Europe and spent a summer in Italy and loved it.

Morocco was very interesting as a tall, blonde, 14-year old girl.

I also really like Nuremburg.  My parents lived there for about 2 years and I got to visit for a while.  It's a beautiful city with lots of history, and it's amazing how completely it was rebuilt after the war (second most-bombed german city after Berlin).

yes, i agree with you lysistrata, nuremburg was absolutely amazing.

the carribean was pretty cool too, though i'm not sure it would've been without the cruise.

South Africa!!! People are friendly and you can go on a safari. I'm going back as soon as I can afford it! Also went to Greece, the island of Mykonos was lovely.
Southeast Asia... The flight there is a bit expensive but it's incredibly cheap to travel around. You could do 2 1/2-3 months in Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines for less than $3000.

There's a thing in Laos called The Gibbon Experience and you get to stay in these tree houses at the top of the canopy in the rainforest, have someone cook for you and go on ziplines through the rainforest for 3 days... surrounded by the animals, etc... for $100.

If there's a nicer city on the planet than Melbourne, Australia, I'd be approaching Nirvana. And NO it's not Sydney! ;) LOVE everything Australian!

I haven't been here yet, but there is this place in Ethiopia where they have this real old church that was carved into the mountain side. I would love to see that. They showed it on "The Amazing Race" a couple of seasons ago and it was something else.

i've travelled quite a bit, and i think the best place to go depends very much on what you want to do when you get there.  that said, one of my favourite places is santorini.  great beaches, good food, shopping if you're into that.  the cities (thiri, oia, old thira) are very cool.  the bars and restaurants built into the cliffs are amazing.  it's not like any of the other greek islands.

i also love new mexico and can't wait to go back (summer 2010?).  fabulous food, a great artisan culture.  great skiing and mountain biking.  if i ever get rich, i'll have a little peublo outside of santa fe like georgia o'keefe.  i'd make it a retreat for writers and artists.

guatemala and belize are great, too.  especially belize during lobster season ;)

Glouchester, MA has an awesome beach right on the Atlantic Ocean. An excellent view of the area. Only slight drawback is a sticker fee to get access to the parking and beachfront. We payed $20 for our day pass, but it was a beautiful day of sun, heat, water, football and sand for our family.

Port Antonio, Jamiaca...where blue lagoon and Cocktails were filmed. Beautiful,, secluded, and during the summer you can see quite a few celebs. I saw sean connery once :)

Alaska is awesome. (We've been twice this year)

We loved Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands. Traveling the Straits of Magellan and around Cape Horn was also very cool. (But I love penguins.) I thought Colombia was beautiful, but all the bombings and kidnappings were a bit .... ummm.... distracting. Brazil and Uruguay were nice, but not really my thing.

I also loved rural Scotland.

And nothing beats Yosemite.

Playa del Carmen on the Mexican Riviera.  Not so Americanized as Cancun.  Lots to see and do, and the most beautiful beaches.  Loved it!  Can't wait to go back.
