Best Gyms in Back Bay area?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi there,  I'm wondering what the best gyms are in the Back Bay.  I used to go to BSC on Newbury but moved away for two years.  I found it kind of small, so am looking for something else now that I'm back in town...

Thanks!

I like the BSC at Copley Square.  It's bigger, better kept, and it has a pool.  I also have friends who absolutely love Equinox right by the Back Bay Station.  It's supposed to be a pretty high end gym, but it's more expensive of course.

I used to go to Healthworks for Women at Stuart and Dartmouth.  (It's basically at Copley.)  I found it was a really welcoming and encouraging environment and it had great classes.  The facilities were beautiful! If you're looking for a women-only gym, I would definitely recommend Healthworks.  The price is comparable to BSC and if you're intimidated by a male-dominated weight room in other gyms, this is definitely the place for you! The women who use this gym are at all different levels of fitness, but I was always motivated by the super buff women doing weight training.

I really enjoy Exhale Spa.  Try taking a few Core Fusion classes or if your super athletic  - try the Core Sport. You'll be hooked once you start seeing/feeling the results like me.

Welcome back to Boston!  I'm not sure what type of things you are looking for in a gym facility but FitCorp at 101 Huntington (shares the same mall as the Prudential) is great.  Its got all of the cardio/strength machines and awesome classes.  I've never had to wait for a machine.

I used to work in the pru and enjoyed the BSC there.  For me a pool is a must, and I was happy to see a few of the newer model rowing machines.  It gets hot at rush hour, unlike some of the bsc's with higher ceilings, but it's good for working up a good sweat.

What are the price ranges for gyms in the Boston area? I like how Healthworks sounds but for that very reason, it sounds super expensive!
