Best at Home Workout DVD's?
So, I was browsing around Target today looking for a workout DVD that I could do on the days where I can not make it to the gym. I bought a walking DVD. I tried it out and I liked it, but think I am going to need to pick another one or two up so that I can change it up and not get bored. Any ideas?
I have a ton of workout DVD's, but the only ones I do on a consistent basis are my Leslie Sansone "walk away the pounds". I also have yoga booty ballet which I think has to wait until i'm in better shape, I can barely make it through the warm up without collapsing. I really do like my pilates DVD's though and my belly dancing dvd's. They're relaxing in a way, but yet I can really feel it when I'm doing them. Good luck!!!
I really like the Ellen Barrett workouts I've recorded from the fitness channel. I know she has dvds, too. I like them because they are low impact and they keep my heart rate in the cardio zone. They are also based in pilates and focus a lot on core strengthening. I only need a light set of hand weights for one of them, and honestly, I used water bottles instead of weights for a long time. I can also do the work outs in a relatively small room. I've found that these workouts help me sculpt and strengthen, which is a nice compliment to the cardio. The fitness channel titles for the two I use are "slowrobics" and "pilates sculpt". Have fun!
I like the walk away the pounds 4 mile challenge best, really a great work out ! I also used to do the slim in six work out vids but somehow got irritated with the evil laugh of that mean pixie that does the vid (when she says "and now 8 more, aaaaargh), I get a kick out of billy blanks tae bo vids too, I dunno what kinda video's you're going for, but this is just my 2 cents :-)
Soliwit, I'm doing Slim in 6 now, and I hear ya on the woman who leads the exercises. Every time she says something like, "I know it's burning now!" I just grit my teeth and try not to say anything rude to the tv. I do like doing the videos though. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.
And I love Ellen Barrett! She cues really well, and I don't find her annoying at all. Her Super SlimDown is pretty good.
I've done Slim in 6, Slim Series, Power 90, Power 90 Master Series, and all of the Turbo Jam ones and my FAVORITE by far is...
TURBO JAM!!! It's seriously a ton of fun! I look forward to working out, and on my rest days I miss doing them because they're just so fun AND effective!
Believe you me Christine, I DID curse sometimes, it felt GREAT LOL. I'll have to lookup Ellen Barret, never heard of her if I am honest.
I was actually thinking of buying those turbo jam dvd's, guess I have to give it a try now, you fired up my curiosity defleplan, thanks !
No problem =P
I just recently got my mom and grandma into them too! AND now my friend wants to come over and try them with me! haha =)
I've been doing Taebo for several years now, i think it's probably my favorite...Get Ripped, BootCamp, Circuit-something-or-other. Also do Slim in 6 (w/ Debbie-something, i think it's got "Burn" in the title). Get Ripped w/ Jeri Love. The Firm (w/ some chick that has a crazy southern accent). All those have held my interest. really hated this 20 pilates DVD someone gave me - i understand the concept, but if i'm gonna devote 20 mins to exercise, i want to work up a sweat! Same w/ yoga.
i could suggest getting NetFlix and ordering all kinds of them, burning (shhhh!) the ones you like. that's how i've gotten a lot of mine.
Turbo Jam RULES my world.
I have turned on SEVERAL of my CC friends to the joys of the 'shake n shed' LOL
I really love it.
Ana Caban Pilates series. GIAM website has them...sandy
My current favorite are Get Ripped with Jari Love. Nice intro to weights and still challenging. I just did Brand New Butt with Janis Saffell (don't laugh, a new butt would be great!) and enjoyed that too.
I own alot of Cathe but am really not ready for her yet.
I also have a few Beachbody DVD's; Kempo X (from the Power X program is great for a cardio day. (BTW-I did the Power 90X workouts for four months and I hated them. Very difficult and I started to dread working out. KempoX is the only I recommend, look for it on Ebay). Regular Power 90 is good too, I love Tony Horton and it goes by quickly.
Slim in 6 is good too but tough on the knees over time.
If you want to read customer reviews of just about any exercise DVD's go to
www.collagevideo.com. Great website, they sell DVD
I am doing Turbo Jam too, just started it, done it 3 times. I don't have the moves down yet, but once I get them down, I know I will enjoy them more.
I second the collagevideo.com website for work out dvds. They have everything. I persoally am in love with Cathe workouts, but i also like jari love's get ripped and just got a new amy bento w/o that is amazing. HTH.
which one burns the most cals?? im looking to buy one too!
I'm sure it depends on your size and intensity and stuff, but on the commercial for Turbo Jam, if you get it with weighted gloves, you have the potential to burn up to 1000 cals/hour.
I don't know how much I burn since I don't have a heart rate monitor yet, but I know it's a good amount.
i just looked up the price, 80 bucks! haha i was expecting like 20.
but do you look forward to working out? is it super fun?
I love Taebo. I have his original VHS tape, his elite workouts, his new amped workouts and guess what? They have all done wonders. Using the billy bands or the amplifier bar can make the workout so much better so try to include it if you can. It can be hard but once you are done it is so worth it.
YES. It is the hardest thing in the world for me to keep it to 1 workout a day! They're so much fun I just want to fill my spare time with them haha...it's well worth the money, in my opinion
