Vanilla or plain light soy milk is only 50 calories per cup. Why did I not hear about this before??? Its amazing and if you put sweetner in the vanilla it tastes like a vanilla milkshake. Just thought id post this cuz im bored, have a good day
hmmmm that sounds good! maybe i'll try it. i also heard that ALMOND milk is even better for you...costs just a bit more but worth it..mabe some vanillla int eh almond milk now I want to try it!
My favorite is Pearl brand vanilla. It is either 100 or 110 per cup BUT it's super creamy and sweet. omg I love it in my coffee. It has a way better taste than any other. Everyone must try it once just to see. I dont like it plain tho. Only in recipes, coffee, cereal, anything with milk, just not plain.
Yeah almond milk is amazing too, but I only had it once. I really love any of that stuff with splenda or truvia. they both have a different taste then regular milk, but are awsome. I actually mixed coco powder with it so it tasted like vanilla hot chocolate when i microwaved it.
I'm a fan of nut milks, too. I use cow's milk for recipes, but I really don't like the taste as a beverage.
There's a company called Pacific (something?) that makes soy, almond, hazelnut (so. good.) and oat milk, but they're all pretty expensive - $3 for one of those quart boxes. If there are Trader Joe stores in your area, they have soy and rice milk (and maybe almond, I'd have to check) at better prices - more like $1.50-$2.00 per box.
More power to those of you who can drink that stuff. I've tried, and I'd rather drink out of my guttering. And it's not really milk. They should call it soy drink.
The best almond milk is Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze by Blue Diamond. Just google it if you want more info and where to get it. It is made with organic almonds, has only 1 gm of carbohydrate and 40 cals a cup and no artificial ingredients or sweeteners. I like it by itself but you can also sweeten it to taste. They also make an Unsweetened Chocolate one that tastes like choc milk made with unsweetened cocoa. Again, if you add a little sweetener to it it tastes just like choc milk but for just 40 cals per cup!
i like rice milk as well :) blended with cocoa powder, sweetener, and some ice cubes and you have a chocolate shake!!
If it's only 50 calories per cup, what are you paying for? Water?
My light vanilla soy milk is 80 calories per cup... not 50.
Anyhow, it's still lower in calories compared to skim milk AND still has fat in it. I bought 3 cases of it because it keeps for a longer time (it was on sale) compared to milk.. I only use it really for coffee and I keep on throwing milk out because of the expiration date.
Yeah don't really think of it as milk but rather a different soy drink. Don't only think about it as an alternative, just enjoy it. :)
Not really a whole lot of difference between 80 cals/cup and 83 cals/cup (skim milk). If you like soy milk, by all means drink it but it doesn't sound like the calories are different enough to worry about. (Personally, I'm put off by the idea of my milk being sweet and vanilla flavoured, but that might just be me. I like my milk to taste of milk.)
