best platform for a scale
Hi
I normally weight myself downstairs in just my underwear on a hard wooden floor but as I now have a new house mate I wanted a bit more privacy so took my scales upstairs with carpets. I was shocked to see an increase on 7lb and took my scales back downstairs - empty house at the time
- and everywhere I placed my scale I was 7lb less than upstairs! I tested this out further and everywhere in my carpeted room upstairs the scales always read 7lb more.
This brings me to the question the downstairs floor is flat hard wood the upstairs is carpeted but an even floor so which platform can I trust?
Home scales are meant to be placed on solid surfaces, not carpet. Although I'm surprised - I would have thought the carpet would make you weigh less.... I dont' know - but what really matters is consistency, which means keeping the scale on the same surface as it was before.

Thanks for that avria you learn something new everyday, that was very interesting and as I weight myself in a scientific and consistent way as possible I had hoped for a good scientific answer like this.
not able to afford any bf% scales at the moment, I have had some in the past and would love get some again.
For now I will make do with my straight forward scales and trusty tape measure. Good new I am not 185lb I am 178lb bad news I will have to sneak around for my monday morning ritual.
I always put mine on the same tile on the bathroom floor, so I understand! Good luck sneaking round in your knickers!
Easy answer - wear something when you get weighed. If it's just a light pair of shorts and a tee shirt, or what you would wear to the gym, that won't even weigh a half a pound. And if you wear the same amount each time, you can consider the weight accurate.
