I have tried Nu salt and i spat is out! Mortons was bad too.. Are they all bitter and eye watering? I want to find the best brand! Any reccomendations? :) -xoxox-
Why do you need a salt substitute? Your body does need some salt.
NuSalt really only works when its blended with other foods, by itself its bad.
I mix it with my Mrs. Dash and it tastes much better.
Pepper.
I also use Herbamare which is salt but it is a herb salt so I think has less sodium per serving - not sure but it tastes amazing on veggies.
Simply use less regular salt and enhance the flavour of your food by choosing fresher/better quality and using herbs and spices. It's not the salt added to cooking that tends to be the problem, it's more the 'hidden' salts and other preservatives in ready-made and processed foods.
^^Trying to avoid edema again and again..
I eat a 'normal' amount of sodium but i CRAVE salt like crazy and the substitute is not to 'substitute' all salt, just to be able to use it when i crave it whilst avoiding having too much. Hope that makes sense! :)
i use sea salt when i use salt and bragg's liquid aminos when i know i shouldn't. it's very salty tasting but only has 5% in a teaspoon and it adds in amino acids (unless you heat it. i'm pretty sure heating it destroys the amino acids.)
hm.
instead of going for salt, why not try out herbs and spices? it gives foods a much much more whole, round taste, and the possibilities of herbs and spices are really endless...

I also use sea salt and have bragg's liquid aminos...I thought those were actually a reasonably healthy alternative, what am I missing?
I'm finding that if I do 2-3 grinds of sea salt and about 10 grinds of pepper that I get a good mixture of the sea salt and pepper which is yummy!
The Only Salt Substitue I can recommend is "Salt Free Seasoning" by Alden Mill House, in Michigan. I buy it from their website, amazing. I am absolutly a salt-a-holic, and have tried every substitue I could, but they all taste terrible, nothing like salt and a bad after taste. This one is wonderfull, you can even taste it straight from the bottle, no after taste.
