When is the best time to exercise in the morning before or after eatting?
Hi, I like to exercise in the morning but don't like to eat breakfast early, I get up at 6:30-7:00 have one cup of coffee, exercise, then I eat breakfast. Is this okay or should I change my schedule to eat first?

Depends on the intensity of your workout and your BF%, I'd say.
I used to be completely against fasted cardio until Dr. Lonnie Lowery convinced me otherwise - if your exercise is reasonably low-impact and you're carrying a bit of extra weight it should be okay. Note that Lowery's exercise plan centers around very low impact exercise, nothing more strenuous than a medium/fast walk - higher impact exercise may be less than ideal. Check out Lowery's plan and see what you think of it.

I eat something light in the morning with my coffee: well, it's always the same really, a slice of wholegrain toast with a thin coating of unsalted almond butter. I add a bit of banana or Vegemite depending on my mood.
I used to wait and eat later, but got a bit dizzy a few times. So later on after a 30 minute walk, I eat some cereal and milk. I like to eat throughout the day.
Thanks for the link to Dr. Lowery melkor, some interesting stuff there. I'd say if you feel good in the morning and have the energy, just stick to your routine.

Thank you for the input and the link as well. I have a medium walk routine on the treadmill for 30 mintues and 3 days on the bowflex so it is nothing too strenuous. I do sometimes get a bit lightheaded and that is why I asked. I will try to have something light with my coffee and see if that makes a difference. thanks
Hmm, what I get from Lowery is that your treadmill walk is just perfect, and the Bowflex may be a bit much to do on empty - Bowflex is strength training, right? That relies more on glycogen and fast-twitch fibers and doing it on empty is probably counterproductive.
So you could try fasted walks and have something with your coffee on Bowflex days, and see how that works for you?

Yes the bowflex is strength training but I have just started a routine so it is pretty mild to say the least with low weight at this point and since I want to tone and not really build muscle I will most likely stay at a low weight. But I think I will try something lite with my coffee each morning and see if I feel better during my workouts. thanks
It doesn't matter. And you need energy while your working out so don't expect to workout at ptimum performance on an empty stumoch hungry. The reason why it doesn't matter is because regaurdless of when you do it you are still burning the calories whichc is what counts teh calorie burning. Rideing your bike in the morning 1 hour is going to burn the same as ridieng in teh afternoon 1 hour. The only thing about morning workouts is it can get you and your body all jumped up and ready to make you feel more motivated throughout the day. Find a time thats fits into yoru scedule and is comfortable for you. When you are comfortable and feel liek oding it is when you will workout your hardest.
I know it is best to not work out with an empty stomach. the problem with me is I am NOT hungrey first thing in the morning. I don't get hungry for at least 2 hours if not till lunch, I force myself to eat breakfast I am not and never have been a breakfast eatter. I like working out in the am I find if I plan to do it in the afternoon I usually don't, so am is best, and Yes you are all right I should be eatting something even if it is a small amount. Thank you for suggestions they do help a lot.
