Yeah definitely jazz or contemporary, ballet really depends... barrework is mostly strengthening and flexibility + coordination but if you're doing phrases or rehearsing a role then it's super cardio!

I've been inconsistently attending lyrical ballet 'classes' (not really classes.. it's part choreography part improv, but you still get critiqued for form and technique which is a plus i think) just for fitness along my regular 2 days a week of regular ballet classes.. granted the cardio is probably 30-40 mins, a lot of factors (fun included) make it seem like a great choice to shuffle around with my other cardio options.

Hip-Hop is the best for cardio I think

I don't know if it is the best, but I have been salsa/merengue/bachata dancing for a month now and I love it.  If you dance 2 or 3 songs in a row you can get your heart going pretty fast and break out into a sweat.

I second zoesv. Hip-hop is a high-energy form of dance. So definitely would help you to loose your weight...

It all depends on the individual classes.

Jazz are usually a good bet to be high energy and high cardio, though some of the more contemporary jazz classes are more about strength and control.

Tap is another great one to break a nice sweat; there is little tap that isn't high energy.

Hip hop depends on the style you're doing and what you're working on.  If you're working on actual techniques, learning waves, pops, glides, etc, it's a lot of repetition of small things.  If you're just doing a lot of fun movement or are at advanced levels to actually be using the techniques in choreography, then you'll get a better workout.

Ballet often depends on the instructor. With a good instructor you'll have a sweat going by the end of plies.  Some classes are made to be more cardio, some to build flexibility, some for strength, you get the idea.

Size of classes is also another factor.  Big classes can be fun and add energy, but sometimes result in creating a lot of groups when doing combinations so you're not actually dancing as much.

Really you just need to know what you're looking for and either try or observe different classes until you find what works best for you and gives you the results you want :)
