I have been looking at swimsuits in the jc penny cataloge and they tell you which suits are for certain body types. Some say for slimming tummy and others for hiding thighes and such!
I think there's probably a general scale of swimsuit wearing related to size:
For example a one suit; if you had bumps and bulges you wanted to slim down, it would give you a more streamlined look.
Tankini; if you're comfortable with bums/legs/thighs, but want to cover up a stomach.
Bikinis; dependent on boob size, there are several options in terms of support; some are basically waterproof bras, if support is the main issue. Others, i think as long as you're comfortable/covered, go with the style you like, the main idea is to feel comfortable and therefore confident!
Theres also a multitude of accessories such as sarongs, board shorts etc if you have issues with various areas. It'd probably be easier for you to describe your body shape and someone can make a suggestion. I also read that certain prints/styles can be more slimming than others.
Although, at the end of the day i should wear what you feel comfortable in!
