I'm new to vegetarian living and I'm really missing my hot dogs.  Please tell me which brands are good and which to stay away from....Thanks

I am also new, but I like Yves, because you can get different flavours, like spicy ones, they also make veggie sausages. They don't have exactly the same texture as a meat hotdog, but they are good.
I love yves soy hot dogs. Really good with cheese whiz and ketchup and y'know, the works. Don't really taste great plain but definitely the best veggie dog ive tried
I have to chime in to agree about Yves. I just bought them for the first time last week and am now  big fan. Good stuff.
When I first saw your post I thought that I enjoy Yves, but since it's the only brand I've been able to find how can I judge? Nice t6 see that Yves has a following.:)

I especially like their Bavarians. And (for a less hot-doggish sausage), I love their breakfast links.
I like Smart Pups the best! :)
I've never had any other kind, but I think the Morningstar ones are just fine.  Not sure I would like them plain, but they are pretty tasty on a slice of bread with a bit of ketchup and mustard.  580 mg sodium each, but the 11 grams of protein is worth it some days, and some days my sodium is a little low anyway.  :)
I found "Smart Dogs" veggie hotdogs are really good cooked on the barbeque...yummmmmmy. Damn it, now i want one
Whenever I see comments about veggie dogs, they're usually always negative - so I'm happy to see some positive comments! I like the Morning Star ones. Then again, I haven't tried any other brands. They're only 80 cal for 11g protein - DAMN. On the grill, they're amazing.

I'm tempted to try other brands, because who can argue with these animal friendly, low cal, high protein little franks? Top it with some veggie chili, and you're a health nut in disguise 8D
i like Yves Tofu Dogs
Today, my roomate and i, are grilling outside, and i am going to try the Smart Dogs from Lightlife. I'll let you guys know how they taste and how they compare to other veggie-dogs i've tried.
thanks for all the reviews!  I am really curious about this topic.
Smart Dogs are my favorite! :)
Update on the Smart Dog veggie-hot dog. We grilled the hot dog and the taste and smell was better than the Morningstar hot dog i  prevously had tried. The texture was meat like and it grillled well. The smart dog is only the second veggie-dog i have tried, so i need to try more out, in order to better be able to compare them.
SMART DOGS!
I've had them all...it's great now that there's selection, I remember 15 years ago when "fake meat" was just taking off and those dogs were GROSS! Anyway, I have to agree with the Smart Dogs recommendations...I even eat them "raw," cold, as part of my breakfast sometimes, but then I am a little strange to begin with!
I eat the Yves dogs, myself.  Today, I cut two up and mixed them with BBQ sauce.  It was really good, but it reminded me of the little BBQ cocktail weenies my mom would make for Christmas parties :)
oooohhh, my favorite are Tofurkey Italian Sausage. They have a hefty calorie count (270 each - yikes!) BUT they are BIG and filling and great if you want to splurge, like at a cookout (the only time I ever miss meat!!). I usually keep them around, and I'll cut off a quarter at a time to chop up and put in scrambled eggs, or if I need a bit of protein, I'll just eat a piece "raw." Trader Joe's is the cheapest place to buy them (2.99 as opposed to 3.99 in other grocery stores...)

I'm looking for a meatless hot dog as well. I just tried SmartDogs and I had to drown them in no meat chilli to get rid of the taste and texture. I hated it!! To me it tasted like mushy liquid smoke! Yuck!

I think I'm going to Try Yves next. They're stuf is usually pretty good...I just gott find it.... ugh.

mafium, thats so weird! smartdogs are the only ones i like. strange how different peoples tastes can be!

I once tried Yves' Breakfast Sausage links...

DISGUSTING.

Now I'm scared to try veggie hot-dogs. Do they taste similar???
