Best workout videos?

Quote  |  Reply
Ok question -- Where do you get these great aerobics tapes, the two I got must have been made in the 80s, because they played songs like "Its my party and I cry if I want to", and they were all dresssed funky, not to mention I wasn't getting any sort of workout.  I jump up and down for like 8-12 minutes at a time a few times a day, I want a video that's pretty hyper and a great workout, preferbly new age with attractive women (so you know the program works) and good music, if any.

Any ideas?

erm, Carma electras stripe-tease video?
I do one that you could order on www.amazon.co.uk Its a DVD that includes warm-up, "disco", combat, high impact aerobics, and a pilates cool down.  Its called "The Charlie Brooke Before & After Workout" and its with Dee Thresher, one of the top trainers in the UK.  I really enjoy it cos its a bit of everything and you can see the difference it made for Charlie Brookes (who was on a TV soap here in the UK)
The library - they're free! :)
I do Turbo Jam videos, and they are awesome!  They have fun music, and are really fast moving.  You get a good sweat going.  The lady who leads the video is very motivating.

I mix the videos in with the elliptical, treadmill, and weights.  I find the combination keeps me interested.  I never get bored.

Hope that helps.

The winsor pilates dvd set is pretty good.
I've always wanted to do the Carmen Electra strip-tease videos, but I heard they suck! What do you think about it, han?
I have a crunch pilates video that is awesome, just haven't done it in awhile... I also have harvey walden the IV's video.  It has two seperate types of music you can choose.  Like hip hop or rock and also has two different lengths of workouts.  You can find it on Amazon.com or look up celebrity fit club.
Jay,

My roomate bought me a Carmen Electra DVD, and it was HORRIBLE.  It is *not* exercise.  I tried the video for about 15 minutes, and my heart rate never started going up.  She goes over complicated moves OVER, and OVER again, so that you never actually get to exercise.  PLUS, the moves are awckard.  One move is a full head roll.  Therefore, by the time the 15 minutes was up, I had done about 20 head rolls!  I was majorly dizzy.

In short, they are terrible.
Shayna, I tried to order the Turbo Jam video about 3 months ago but I couldn?t get past the customer service rep's aggressive solicitations. She tried to sell me 4 additional videos, 3 types of vitamins, a monthly workout subscription, and some exercise equipment. I mean this woman was nonstop for about 20 minutes! And to make things worse, she said I wouldn't have results like the people on the infomercial unless I purchased the extra products.

Just wondering if you had a similar experience.
Pearlette,

YES!  I did have a very similar experience.  It was non-stop asking me to buy additional things.  I politely said no to everything (although I admit I was quite annoyed).  The only thing I agreed to do was pay in one payment (instead of breaking it up), and they sent me something extra.

You can avoid that, I assume, by ordering online.

If you hate exercise, though, the tapes are worth it.  Turbo Jam is what go me into exercise, *finally*.  Now I mix it up with many other things.  But at the start, I only did the tapes.  They are a lot of fun.
The Biggest Loser DVD is by far the GREATEST workout VIDEO I've found.  It's got lots of different workouts and includes a warm up and cool down.  I use it every other day and rotate the workouts along with my stationary bike.
Shayna, Thanks for sharing. I've been strictly using my elliptical for a little over a month now and because I don't like exercising, I think I should try something different before I get bored.

Unfortuantely, the online process was just as annoying as the customer service rep; I was done after the fourth pop-up advertisement...augh! I thought about checking the "As Seen On TV" store, but then I remembered their no refund/exchange policy.

As frustrating as this ordering process has been, your words of encouragement have motivated me to give it one more try.

Wish me luck!
try collage video, they have an awesome selection and good prices.  (www.collagevideo.com).  I am not sure if they carry Turbo Jam though.

I personally like The Firm... with the steps and the body bar.  Its hard, its motivating, and you can really see the results (though, its not all that fun LOL).
Thanks, Drea!
Pearlette,

Thanks for your kind words.  I know it's tough - not to mention, a little bit embarrasing to talk to those sales reps over the phone.  But, if you can find a fun video, then perhaps you will be more motivated to work out!

Another tip is to get an mp3 player.  After I bought one, my workouts became SO much easier!  Music helps me get through a cardio session.
I'm also a fan of the firm, windsor pilates and crunch. Currently my favorites are crunch fat burning ab attack and the biggest winner series( Jillian Michaels of the biggest loser). Jillian is the love/hate in my life. She kicks my ass but boy is it shapely. I like the aerobic striptease, once you've learned the routine it is a pretty good workout not a great one but a fun one, after being a mom all day it reminds me I'm feminine and can feel sexy.
If you have room and the weights, Cathe's workout videos are the BEST I've ever seen. She's no lightweight. Be ready to pump up the iron!

I do her kickbox routine since you don't need a step to do it (I foolishly gave mine away years ago).
I just ordered the Winsor-Pilates circle videos with the resistance-circle thing. I was watching the infomerical this morning and when they dropped the price to $9.95 I had to buy it! Yes, I know, I am an impulse buyer, you could sell me ice in alaska!! LOL Anyhow, it does come with a "free memebership" where they send you 2 videos a month and automatically charge you $20 for each vodeo to your credit card!! I'm cancelling that subscription as soon as I get home though!!
bump.

So far I ordered the Biggest losers to start.  I have some weights but I don't want to pick something too hard and not stick to it.. any more suggestions?
