I am trying to cut back on artificial sweeteners. I used to eat Dannon Light and Fit yogurt, so I decided to cut that out. I have switched to greek yogurt, but I cannot handle the plain. I have tried adding fresh fruit, but it is just way too tart for my taste. I have been eating the flavored greek yogurt...strawberry, blueberry, peach, and vanilla. But they are loaded with sugar. There are about 19g of sugar in each little container, but there are 14g of protien.
Which is better...artificially sweetened yogurt or greek yogurt which has a ton of sugar?
Neither is worse than the other given that you're probably only eating one pot of either in the course of a day?.. If you were eating three, four or five pots a day there might be a cumulative effect but I don't think that's the situation. My personal choice would be plain fruit with plain yoghurt because I don't like artificial sweetners much. My next choice would greek yoghurt and honey (now that really is the food of the gods
). But you go with the one you enjoy most and that's probably the better one for you.
have you tried stevia extract as a sweetener? It is natural, I used it all the time and love it in greek yogurt :)
i'll tell you which is better. and you're going to love this. you get plain yogurt, fat free (i like LIBERTY Organic). i buy frozen blueberries, take out about 1/2 or 1/3 of a cup the night before, put in container in teh fridge overnight. in the morning, mix with some plain yogurt and add a tsp of maple syrup. or two, if you need it. the juice from the blueberries melted, the maple syrup. it is THE BEST yougurt i had in my life and it's all natural. which is ALWAYS better.
I second the Stevia.
You could buy plain greek yogurt and sweeten it with Stevia and add some fruit if you like.
If you don't like the artificial sweeteners, but you can't stand the taste of plain yogurt, sweetening it with fruit, honey, maple syrup, or natural cane sugar is the only way to go. Yes, it's "added" sugars, but it's all natural!
You can also mix in some peanut butter or cocoa powder.

I second that! Yum!!! Somtimes I'll take a dried apricot and chop it up and add it along with the honey. Or maybe three or four chpped natural almonds along with the honey. Just enough for a little texture and some natural flavor.
I agree with the stevia choice. It takes the "edge" off the tartness of plain yougurt.
Hey, don`t expect your taste buds to immediately adjust to the plain yogurt flavour; it is quite the leap from the very sweet kind you are used to. But I`d keep trying, sweeten the plain generously at first and gradually reduce. You might learn to love the plain after all. For most dieters there are just so many tastes they simply adore now that they used to not be able to stand before. Good luck! :)

There are plenty of times where something 'all natural' is much worse. There are plenty of 'all natural' things that will kill you, which I'm imagine is not the better of any options.
