better to go over than skimp on nutrients?
Question for you...
Since I didn't have class today, I woke up later than usual this morning and had a late breakfast. Since breakfast was pushed back and I had some healthy snacks this afternoon, it is 4:30 pm and I've just now eaten a late lunch. Right now my calories sit at 1560. My target for today was 1500.
My question is, since I ate such a late lunch, should I consider it my dinner and just have a few glasses of tea later as I usually do after dinner? (I'm trying not to snack after 7 pm). Or, would it be better to go a couple hundred over my target in order to have a small dinner later and get some more nutrients in for today? (I was thinking a small green salad with lima beans and balsamic vinaigrette dressing). I ask because I would be at about 1300 right now, except that I had a small bowl of ice cream with sprinkles for dessert at lunch since I haven't treated myself in awhile.
What do you think?--- Stick with my target of 1500? Or go over, having about 1700 instead, in order to get that salad in?
Also, today is my "rest" day from working out, if that makes a difference. Tomorrow is a strength day.
Thanks!
I think it would be better to go a bit over than to skimp out. Personally, I have trouble sleeping if I feel hungry so not eating so long before bed would probably keep me up. Also, if I feel hungry, I'm more likely to overeat (or binge) by a lot the following day.
Besides, a little increase in calories gives your metabolism a jolt :]
Go a bit over and have that nutritious dinner. If you have time, you can always go for an after dinner walk.
I don't usually recommend skipping meals, but if you had 'lunch' at 4.30 to my mind that WAS dinner, especially since your calories are right on the money. You ate late enough that you probably won't get hungry again, so why force the issue? But if you DO get hungry, have a small nutritious snack before you go to bed - I know you say you don't want to eat after seven, but it's not going to kill you...
