BEWARE! Pizza Hut Pasta Bakes!

Quote  |  Reply

Yesterday I had the chicken pasta bake and it was delicious but I later found out that it's 1140 calories!!! That is insane! I don't think that includes the garlic bread that comes with it.  I will eat that on a cheat day only from now on!!! How crazy is that?

I figured it would be something like that.  Where did you get the calorie information?

Here's from their website:

http://www.pizzahut.com/Files/PDF/Pizza%20Hut %20Bistro%20Nutrition%20Facts.pdf

It's chicken alfredo, did you  think it wouldn't be high in calories?  Pasta w/ cream sauce?  Pasta Alfredo is probably the highest calorie food you can get at an italian restaurant.
okay yeah chicken pasta bake screams loaded with calories to me. obviously it was baked in something that could only be named as cheese which is so high in cals. plus its pizza hut. have they ever been calorie friendly? sounds like you enjoyed it though!
Alfredo is just about the worst food out there, not just compared to other pastas. Plus then you've got the extra cheese, and the chicken, which is automatically adding a lot of animal fats, saturated fats, and cholestorol. Betting the pasta was white pasta too...

Another good reason to always look up the calories before you eat something!

Yes I did enjoy it and I expected it to be high in calories but not high. The picture on the menu makes the dish look much larger than it is. It really wasn't deep at all and it wasn't that much to be 1140 calories. It really had way more cheese than alfredo in my opinion. It was so good though I wanted another one the next day but I didn't.  Oh well lesson learned. Just wanted to warn everyone because it's easy to not remember when you are out with family and friends and everyone is eating and enjoying themselves! :)

Hello nenewa,

Thank you for the warning.  I suggest you pickup a copy of this book called, Eat This Not That.  In the book it has a menu decoder which will help you identify menu items and what they mean.

Yes I've heard of that book. I'm reading two others right now but I will keep that in my memory to pick up next.

The following words I tend to avoid when checking out a menu

Au Gratin, sprinkled with cheese, melted cheese, cheesy = contains cheese

Creamy/cream/creamed/cream of/sour cream = contains cream!

Sauteed/Fried/deep fried/pan fried/crispy/breadcrumbed/breaded/battered/co ated/golden = fried!!!

Rich = there will be butter in it somewhere

Glazed/"Sweet N"/Honey  =  covered in sugar

You shouldn't be surprised by numbers like that at a place like Pizza Hut to be honest. I bet making your own mac 'n' cheese would not only be less caloric, but much healthier - especially if you use whole wheat pasta, low fat grated cheese, and some vegetables thrown in.

Just learn from this time and move on. :]

Oh my God... that is insane. They sure look good on TV.

Wow, that doesn't leave us much to choose from.  And if we order salad we  better make sure the dressing is on the side and that they don't add croutons or bacon or cheese.  Cry

Sometimes eating right just isn't any fun.  Said as I eat an apple while contemplating what to have for supper tonight!

Thanks for posting calorie info . They look delicious on TV and I was planning to go for it this weekend......but not now.

I take the view that sometimes in life when there are no healthy choices the challenge is to make a least unhealthy choice.  If everything on the menu is cheesy, creamy high-calorie, just eat a small portion instead of polishing off whatever shows up on the plate.   The idea is not to sit in a restaurant miserably pining over the dish you'd have loved but 'can't eat because you're on a diet'.  The idea is to enjoy food but stay in control.

My husband wanted to order that one night, the meaty marinara kind. I ordered it for him, but did not eat it. It was a HUGE pan that it came in, so I can see where the whole pan would be that many calories....

Wait a minute you guys.  You're giving the Tuscani Alfredo a bad rep!  1/4 of a huge, family size tray is 630 (337 g) and you wouldn't want to eat that much!   I had some tonight, about 280 cals. worth -- A  snack size helping as a nice side dish to the rest of my meal.   The lasagna is even less.  Look at weights and portions!  There are easy gram to ounce converters online.
