How big would about 550 calories worth of 70% ground beef look like
According to calorie-count.com food info for 75% ground beef:
3 oz = 235 cal
If you divide 235 by 3, you get 78.33 calories per ounce
If you are trying to figure out how many ounces of this ground beef would make up 550 calories.... divide 550 by 78.33. This equals 7.
So, using 75% ground beef, you'd have to eat 7 ounces (almost half a pound) to equal 550 calories.
P.S. 1 pound equals 16 ounces

Thanks but I need a visual aid to how much that is.
Sorry, I'm not a math person or an artist. Maybe somebody else can be more creative with the visuals.
Good luck.

look at a pound of that beef at the grocery store and measure out half of it.
Inaccurate way of measuring it.
75/25 chop meat literally loses 20% of its size once it's been cooked, due to the fat escaping. I don't buy 75/25 meat because I don't want to lose 20-25% of what I paid for.
Two decks of cards would be between 7-8 lbs. (Thanks Weight Watchers) A deck of cards is approximately 3.5-4lbs.
Hope that helps. (Also, most salmon filets are approximately 6oz... so if you have frozen pre-sealed salmon filets, you can look at that and see if it's close.)
Half a lb of ground beef is quite a lot... BUT, I have "hungry days" when eating a 1/2 lb burger just doesn't cut it... so I guess guaging how much you ate depends on whether you were having a "hungry day" or a "normal person day".
Bobbyj,
I went to the nutritionist the other day. It was worth the cost. I reccomend you try to make an appointment to see one. That or see if your local Community College has any nutrition classes you can take. Anyway, I am raising teenage boys, the bottomless pits that they are and I have a very active husband. They all need larger portions of protein than I do, and about 500-1000 calories a day more than I do. When my husband is training heavily I have to increase his meals by one more and make everything bigger at that just to get him the 3000 calories he needs!
What the nutritionist said for me about judging a healthy portion of meat for myself and my children and husband is to take a look at the palm of my hand, and theirs. Take that area and make it 1/2 inches tall of lean protein. That was a serving for that person. This of course is based on someone who does moderate activity and isn't based on really high active lifestyles.
By the way, when you are talking about the weight of ground beef, the servings are not based on cooked weights, they are based on precooked weights. So if you are supposed to have 5-7 oz of lean protein in a serving that is precooked weight.
