I dont know why, but everytime I see a MUFFIN, I cant stop myself from eating one!!!! I do so well on my diet all the time, I practice yoga every morning and then come to office and on my way see the Cranberry Nut, Banana Nut, Apple Cinnamon and their other brothers and sisters and just cant help but eat one.
I am doing the 1500 calories a day diet and go for a walk everyday, but I REALLY do need some inspiration to STOP eating these muffins :( coz I feel guilty ALL day! Its a vicious cycle and I am not able to get out of it!!!!!
Thanks

Oh did I add that I am eating one right now!!!! And feel with every bite I am putting on 5lbs :(
I really don't have too much advice, but i'm not sure if you can maybe take a different hall to get to your office so you don't have to see the temptaion everyday....or you could eat a high protein breakfast right before you go to work so you are already full before you even see them and you won't be as tempted to eat one.
and on a side note the thing that detered me from muffins (i too love the blueberry and bananna nut..ummm) but i read a book called the picture perfect diet and it referred to a muffin as a "breakfast cupcake" becasue they have such high calories...now everytime i see them i think in my head "breakfast CUPCAKE" no thanks ;D ...i have only had one small bite of a muffin since and i put the rest down (that was about 4 months ago that i read that)
Hope that helps ;)

give yourself a muffin day once a week; it can be some type of reward. I used to be the same way, but now once I look at the calories in the damn things I get discouraged to eat it MIGHTY fast!
Bettlebop, i feel your pain. For whatever reason, muffins are one of my biggest weaknesses!
The thing is, even though their amazingly delicious, they are very high in calories. Once in a while i can get one and only eat half- but in all honesty thats happened, maybe, twice. Usually if i 'let' myself have one, i can't stop thinking about it until i get another...and another...
i just have to avoid bakeries at this point.
one substitution i've found is instant oatmeal. Kashi carot rasin spice is AWESOME. If you don't put too much water in (just enough to cook) its almost the same consistancy with minimal calories. Actually, its probably pretty healthy.
From one muffin fanatic to another; this is working for me.
good luck! One day, one hour, one meal at a time.

I am the person who puts muffins in a case so that i can put them out in the morning for people to eat lol. I used to be so into them but after eating ours....i dont really care for them. they are kinda try...
however, its the blondies and magic bars that i need to stop sampling =/

If the visualization helps, you can think "muffin-top" when you see one...heh.
Incidentally, all pastries are evil. In a pinch I ate a croissant this morning, carefully passing up the doughnuts and other frosted things around it, only to find out when I logged it later that it's still at least 250 calories. What's up with that?!

You people are amazing, thanks for all the support!
I had oatmeal sprinkled with some brown sugar (for my sugar fix) for breakfast today and I have vowed never to touch a muffin again...or maybe reward myself with half a muffin once a week :)
I recently discovered this site and I think its really helping me stay focused! Good luck to all ya ladies, and thanks a million for your support!

We all have our slipups every once in awhile, of course, we're all human!! Just remember the YOU mantra..."At the next available moment, make an authorized YOU-Turn." Then we'll find ourselves right back on track :)
OMG OMG OMG I am a muffin lover too! You can eat your muffin if you just know where to buy them. Ever hear of vitaTop muffins? Yes its true there are healthy muffins out there. At 80-100 calories for a 2 ounce muffin, you can eat a muffin for breakfast every day. You can even check out how calorie-count grades these muffins. They get an A. I love them and have another 3 dozen being shipped to my house as we speak <3
vitalicious.com is the website if you wanna check them out. The banana nut is my favorite, but I am a sucker for their velvet chocolate too :)

I LOOOOOVE MUFFINS! lol. The best way, i think, to deal with this is...to make your own! This way, you know what's in it and can make it WAY more healthy! PLUS, you won't have to go without! voila!
It's not muffins with me but CHOCOLATE!!!
The only way I did it was to make it an absolute forbidden food. It is the only thing that I have made forbidden and I've not eaten any whatsoever this year since giving it up.
I also told everybody that I was giving it up so I can't ever be seen with any. It only took a couple of weeks to get over the cravings. Sometimes now and then, I do get a whiff when somebody close is eating a chocy bar but I just look at it and covert the image of the rippling dark chocolate coating to that of thick creamy coloured lumpy solid lard like fat and imagine it underneath my skin pushing out my hips and tummy and it's enough to make me feel sick.
Complete abstination for me was the only answer.

mrs-r nice visual!! i have a donut shop next to my office and i keep a visual of that commercial they used to show with a donut wrapped around the woman's middle or two big cinnamon rolls were on her butt cheeks!!! LOL. I too see a muffin almost every day at the bagel shop - they had pumpkin and were frosted - but when i checked (after I had one) - they were like 800 calories. I couldn't believe it!!
littlestbirds, croissants are made by folding the dough with butter, over and over to make the flakey layers. They are very rich. But so good.
Most store bought muffins have as many calories as an Egg McMuffin, and at least as much fat. they are giant calorie bombs hiding under a halo of nutrition, even bran muffins.
I love muffins too, but knowing all the corn syrup and hydrogenated oills that are all too common in store made and factory made muffins has turned me off of them.
However, there are many recipes for whole grain low fat muffins tfhat are quite tasty. I've taken to making my own instead. A good quick bread recipe can also be adapted to make muffins as well. At least then you will know exactly what is in them.
Croisants are tasty, but very unhealthy as they are bascially layers of white pastry, with tons of butter in between. They are giant flaky French butter bombs. . The butter is what gives them the flakey layers and the yummy taste.

A good alternative to muffins, (I am also a huge muffin fan.. do you know the muffin man the muffin man.. why yes, I do & I ate him this morning), are these -quaker baked blueberry muffin bars-
I think the other flavor is banana nut.
they aren't exactly the same, but they hit the spot & they are only 140 calories, 3.5 g fat & 26 carbs..
It doesn't have the best ingredients, but it is made with whole grain rolled oats- its a good substitute if you are in a muffin frenzy.
Apparently they can be warmed in the microwave as well, which I haven't tried yet.

There's nothing wrong with the occasional muffin, if you don't mind baking it yourself and making sure it's a healthy one. This is a great recipe:

I agree with the other posters about making sure you have some good protein and fiber in the morning. I tend to not have protein in the morning but when I have good fiber and protein, and nothing sweet, for breakfast, it's amazing how much more willpower I have to resist the mid-morning sweet treats.
The other advice I have is to buy some of the mini-muffin pans and make some healthy muffins at home. They freeze great and one batch of muffins makes a whole lot of mini-muffins. Take one with you when you're passing the muffin-guantlet and know that you'll reward yourself with your mini-muffin when you get where you're going.
