I must say that I was quite impressed with the all the weight that Jerry lost while at home. That just goes to show you that anything is possible with determination, dedication and perseverance. As a 64 year old man with failing health, he turned it all around. Kudos to him!
Helen, although I thought she looked somewhat gaunt (but fit), is also an inspiration as a 48 year old woman winning the grand prize. I think it's great that it was these 2 that won.
Did anyone else vote for who they wanted to be on next season and who did you vote for? I voted for Amanda- the 19 year old- because of her determined look while working out with Jill.

jerry looks sicker now than he did before. bad PR for the show when he drops dead in a week or two.
Hey PG u haven't been reading my post's. I spin next to the guy at least once a week and he is fantastic. He is so much more alive and perky. I used to see him mowing his lawn and think oh my god that guy is going to have a heart attack. He and Stella are very inspiring to be around. Just thought you'd like to know.
And yes Odd-funk, they did it at home with the help of trainers and their own self discipline. It just goes to prove it really isn't about any gimmicks or tricks it is a life commitment to getting your health back.

Nah, the guy isn't sick...just different. We all look different when we make such big changes.
he`s 64. tell me he doesn`t look closer to 80.
Again, sweetie you of all people being so judgemental,,, I am so surprised?
it`s only judgmental if you have something against people who are 80. if i met him on the street, i`d guess 80; doesn`t mean i`d think less of him.
Helen looked disgusting. If she is really 5'6 than 117 pounds is very underweight for 48 year old woman with children. It is. I seriously think that those who make the show should not let them drop below normal weight... it is not a good promotion. She looked sick, her face that used to be so cute became ugly. There is no way she did it in a healthy weight, she perhaps had to stave herself... That gao between her legs, lack of breasts. And she overdid with tan. This is just not fair.
I never thought Helen had a cute face. But now that she's thin she's less attractive in her face because you can see all her wrinkles and loose skin now. Also, she was a smoker -- and it shows. To me Helen and Jerry looked the same age - she looks really old for 48. But I think with some people who lose weight (a lot of weight) that's what happens. I never thought Helen had an attractive face, and she looks even worse now... some of the others like Kristen, Mike, Sione, Tara, Nicole, Laura just look so amazing now. Helen, not so much. She could easily pass for 65+.
As far as the tanning, I always assumed that the show is responsible for spray tanning etc. the contestants so that they look more "healthy" at the finale (somewhat orange looking as far as I'm concerend). I can't imagine that Jerry would have gone to a tanning bed on his own and he looked really tan to me.
Jerry looks a lot older than he is, and Helen looked awful. I think Jerry always looked that old, because of his lifestyle, whereas Helen looks newly gaunt, and is now below a healthy BMI.
I missed the first hour and so didn't get to see what happened between Carla and Joelle - can someone fill me in? Or did they just gloss over that they had stopped talking?
My 2 cents, I was sorry to see Helen win, but I didn't think she looked unhealthy. I thought she looked good, for chrissakes, she is 48 so don't expect her to look like she's in her 30s. Tara had on a buttload of eye makeup, she looked a bit strange to me. I would have liked to see her win, but it wasn't to be.
As for 117 on a 5'6" frame, I find it hard to believe she's that tall. She didn't look 4 inches taller than Jillian who is 5'2"... Also she must be carrying alot of muscle, so 117 does seem particularly low for that height.
Jerry was amazing, I'm glad he beat out Ron. I bet Ron thought he would take the "sent home" and Mike would take the BL title -- not to be. Yes, Jerry looks ancient to me, my bf is 63 and he looks much younger than Jerry. Jerry being 64 is scary. But he did look way better than he did at the beginning of the show. And what an attitude!
I missed the 2nd hour of the grand finale because PBS was running the Frontline show on Bernie Madoff. There was no way I was missing that, it was excellent.
Have any of you actually considered, I don't know, going for actual numbers instead of going, "If she's really 5'7..." blah blah blah?
Helen's info. She's not underweight. Her BMI is 18.9. It's getting close and I don't think it looks good on her all, but the whinge whinge whinging in this post based on inaccurate information and the laziness to not even hit google... call it post-semester irritation, but sheesh
people are primed to bitch on helen. it wouldn't matter what she weighed or what she looked like, the fact that she won just makes people hate her more.
personally, i don't understand why it was such a terrible crime for her to let her daughter go home. shannon is an adult, and the two of them made a decision. obviously, they made the right decision, because they now have a quarter of a million bucks that they wouldn't have had otherwise.
it's a **** game show, people. shake it off.
I didn't think Helen looked unhealthy. Very fit and very thin but not unhealthy. Her body is quite imperssive. I just don't think she is an attractive woman in the face - wasn't before, and even less so now. I was, however, really surprised to hear that she is 5'6". I would have put her at about 5'3". It's not only about her daughter that I don't like her - she just bugs the **** out of me, and I can't put my finger on why. Just find her really annoying and glad that it's over :)
I didn't vote for the 2 girls for next season. Honestly I zipped thru the entire show on tivo and mainly watched the weigh-in results for each person, and some of the fluff stuff -- like Carla and Joelle. To the person who asked, they just glossed over their relationshp and didn't get into the details of that.
They did sort of gloss over the whole Carla/Joelle situation... But you could tell by their interaction that they are not close anymore - I think at one point they were asked if they had bridged the gap and they both said, oh yeah - we are ok - but I think it was an "I am doing ok by myself" kind of thing.
Bygones.
I didn't like Helen - I think it had alot to do with her voice - and her attitude... I do think she played the game well, she just kind of slid in under the radar while everyone was watching Mike and Tara battle it out, and disliking Ron, it kinda just worked out for her.
Found this article on Helen winning (very small) in my e-mail from USweekly magazine:

My mother told me that she read an article about Helen that said she only ate sugar free jello and asparagus for the two weeks prior to the finale. Wonder if it could be true.
I was upset that the finale was 3 hours long. I DVR'd it and watched the whole thing in like 45 minutes. I figured there would be the 2 or 3 who didn't lose much weight. I was shocked to see Jerry had lost so much weight and won the at home part. I had completely dismissed "the old people who left after a couple shows". I really had Kristin and Nicole pegged for the at home stuff.
Speaking of Kristin, I'm not sure what I thought of the blonde hair....reminded me of the lead singer from the Cranberries when she was blonde or maybe one of the Dixie Chick girls.....but I love her attitude and she looks great and I'm happy for her.
I'm surprised Helen won. I too was annoyed with her all season...I think she came across as whiny to me. I am also shocked to learn that she is 5'6...I definitely would have pegged her shorter then me. I think now that she is so little, her nose looks even bigger and thats what throws me about her face.
And Mike. If I were single and 10 years younger, I would be taking a road trip to Michigan....LOL
Three hours for the live finale was ridiculous... even two hours is too drawn out and they added in all sorts of junk to stretch it to three. We watched the first hour, turned over and watched Fringe while our DVR recorded the Biggest Loser, then turned back to our now-recorded program and zapped all the ad-breaks and interminable time-wasting, and we caught up to 'real time' five minutes before the end of the show!
The final three were very close... I thought for sure that Mike or Tara was going to win but when you saw all three together you really couldn't take any bets on it. It looks to me like Helen and Jerry are BOTH thinner than they should be for optimal health. Looking at Jerry all I could think was 'I hope he never gets seriously ill, because he has NO reserves left to lose.' But I always think that when I see a really thin person...
Kristen looked FANTASTIC and so did a few of the the other formerly extremely large competitors. To be honest I don't think they should even let anyone under 250 pounds go on the program, because they end up losing too much weight in the end. The really big people really NEED to lose the weight and the smaller competitors always end up going too far.
I personally wish that they had a show called "The Last 20" or something of that nature for people that only have 20ish or so pounds to lose. That would be great to see how FIT the people would become and yes, 20 lbs is a lot of weight. Not everyone that "needs" to lose weight is obese or morbidly obese.
Oddfunk, there's a show called "Last 10 Pounds Bootcamp" that does just that.
For anyone who cares: Helen is on the Ellen DeGeneres show today....
Thanks for the link dreadfulpenny :). I'll have to check it out when I get home as I cannot access it here from work. I've never heard of this show and will definitely watch when it comes on.
