How did she do it?
Well, I've read before that one week on The Biggest Loser is actually more like 11 days. I don't know if that is true.
What I do know is that I can lose between 3 and 5 lbs. in one workout session, and I only weigh 113 and am 5' 3 1/2". That's largely water weight, of course, but some of it tends to stay off, and besides, their final workout session before the weigh-in involves a significant loss of water weight as well. And if I eat healthily, I lose 2 to 3 lbs. a week steadily—at 2500 calories. I can even lose two pounds, sometimes 3, at 3000 calories.
They are eating a lot less than I am, working out a lot more, and they weigh a lot more. If I can lose as much as 8 pounds in a week by losing 3 for real and then engaging in a final workout session in which I lose 5 more in water weight? They can easily top that.
i love watching TBL, but don't ever compare your normal healthy weightloss to what happens on the show. sounds like you are doing fantastic at 2 lbs a week!
Normally I think they don't do this, but for the last weigh-in to be in the finals there was no reason to NOT do it. They sweat it out however they can and not drink any water. Very dangerous but for short term, you can lose high amounts of weight.
**Speculation. I of course, do not know this for a fact.

jennifer, i believe they are working out an insane amount, like 6 hours per day. plus they are probably losing a LOT of water weight! what they are doing just isn't realistic for anyone!
Not only is it not realistic, it also leads to an excessive amount of loose skin. If your skin is to have any chance of maintaining elasticity as you lose weight, you have to lose it slowly.
1) they have no responsibilities on the show like real people do.. no job, school, kids, etc
2) they spend all of their free time working out
3) they can't binge even if they wanted to.. nor can they "cheat"
4) they start with people that are VERY overweight... very overweight people can lose weight much faster/easier than slightly overweight people or healthy BMI people
5) they don't take water weight into account
6) they are probably allowed to get lots of sleep
7) they don't talk about all the saggy skin people will have down the road from losing so fast
I don't know... but I doubt it involved any kind of behaviour that would be healthy long-term! They didn't have the trainers standing over them in the last week so there was nobody there to see if they went overboard and risked their health... plus, what wouldn't you (or most people) do for a chance to win $250,000???? This last weigh-in was the make-or-break one and I'm sure they did whatever it took.
Thanks your thoughts, I feel better. I dont think I would want to work out 6 hours a day :-) You all made me feel better and what you guys made sense. Thanks!
its pretty obvious there are some skin issues cause they never show them shirtless later on I'm sure thats why heh I wish they would I'm curious what it looks like because I'm gonna be losing alot if I ever get around to actually...accomplishing my goal and I might have extra skin stick around even if I lose it slow possibly? Not sure if going slow negates that or not
Hmm I guess all that money would help to pay for the surgery to remove the skin.
Regardless of the speed of weight loss, all of them would have loose skin issues. As for the final weigh-in, I am sure that all of them, knowing that there wouldn't be a wiegh-in the following week risked getting dehydrated for the final few extra pounds.
These people are monitored by a doctor for their nutrition intake. To be frank with you, they are working out 2 hours a day and only consuming 1200 calories (even the males). I don't suggest you go all hard core like these people. Slow and steady wins the race. If you would like a faster solution, talk to your doctor about a supervised plan.
They do get pretty hard core in diet/exercise mode tho, don't they?

OMG you are so right!! I wondered why they had their shirts off in the beginning and now that they are so much smaller they have then on!! You would think they would still have their shirts off to show the progress. Wow.
I love the biggest loser because it's very motivational and sometimes they give some great diet and fitness tips... but I just HATE IT when someone steps on the scale and gets disappointed with a 1 or 2 pound loss... I'd be jumping off the walls with that, since I lose so slowly, almost being non-existent. And I never understand how anyone could think a 12 or 15-pound drop is healthy. Who loses that much in one week or 10 days anyway?? I agree much of it has to do with dehydration.
The first week I started dieting I lost that much. I think it was a matter of the difference:
5 cokes a day, no excersize, no water, fast food, no vegetables
to
tons and tons of water, no fast food, no coke, much healthier food choices and a couple hours of excersize a week, much much smaller portions and tons of fibre.
It's just an all around turn around. Whether it was her first week or not, I don't know, but if it is you'll notice she'll get down to about where you are, where I'm at now, about 2 pounds a week :D
with 250,000 who cares about the saggy skin! you would have moreee than enough money to get surgery!
I love the biggest loser! Okay, here is what I think......they are at a ranch for i think 5 months. They have no jobs there and no kids. They have nothing to do but work out 24/7. They have all the healthy foods at the ranch...they don't have the temptations that we have. For a person like you, who probably works and takes care of a family, and you work out whenever you can....2 lbs a week is a good pace. Don't we all wish that we could go to the biggest loser campus and workout all the time without any distractions
It really makes me sad that Ali was able to lose 112 pounds and is now 8 pounds under my goal weight and she is one inch taller than me. I am glad she is happy and 'healthy' but she is so dang skinny. She beat me to my goal weight and then blew it out of the water and had almost 100 pounds more to lose than me. :(
it's called working out 8-10 hours a day... I'm so amazed by their transformations and how it's changed their lives... I'd give anything to put myself through that (that's what I need... someone up my butt about keeping my body moving)... BRING IT ON! lol But in all reality... working out as much as they did on the ranch just isn't feasible in daily life.
The key is to be consistent in your healthy eating habits and exercise (always a key with weight loss). Get your body moving... even if it's 20 min. of walking for those that can't handle a more intense workout yet.
I would KILL to have Bob or Jillian at my house for a MONTH! Quit working for that time, learn how to eat and exercise and get my butt in shape! Then, I could just work on maintaining it!
