And on low carbs.. not eating any breads and sugars either..
Anyway. You can not live on 500 .. The men go on a 1500 cals where the women goes on a 1200.. I don't know how that works. But i went on a 1200 and i have lost a lot of weight that way.
What my mom has done was this.. She said.. If i get to my size 12 14.. she will buy all of my clothes as long as i keep it off..
she had a gastic bypass a few years ago, and she don't want me to be fat while she is getting thinner..
But most of all.. I am not losing weight for the new clothes for a life time. What i am doing it for me myself. I miss the way the old me is.. Hang up something small sexy and nice.. And let that motivate you..
Good luck to you... Lynn
I think also, that although prize money is nice, that kind of says only the biggest loser is a winner, doesn't it?
We are ALL winners on this website!!! So, myself, I won't be looking for that kind of contest. Also, that 500 cal diet really can't be healthy for the long run, it just makes a spectacular short term change.
In order to lose fat you have to fuel the body especially if you are working out rigorously every day the way they did. If they starved the contestants there might have been some initial weight loss but the results they acheived would not have happened because they would have went into conservation mode.
Anyway. On the wedding show. The blue team that was a couple tring to win the money for the wedding said in there own words on T.V. They was placed on 1200, and the man was placed on 1500, and they don't know how they are going to stay on the diet.
I don't know about that 500 thing. I don't think that is true..

i watched that show and thats what the diet i saw was. yes, that is very unsafe. it is in the anorexic range actually. im not allowed to go below 1000 calories a day and that still too little but im working my way up.
To put this very nicely - I'm emphasizing "nice" here...
I believe you are mistaken - there was a 1 before the 500 on that show. I saw it too. They are on a 1500 calorie intake per day + their 4 hours per day training. *Not* a 500 calorie intake per day. I saw the form, it said, "1500."
Thought I would add the information I have in front of me...

Ahem...
Your present weight x 7 = Your daily caloric needs for weight loss
If you weigh more than 300 pounds, start by eating 2,100 calories a day. If you weigh less than 150 pounds, plan to eat around 1,050 calories a day.
This is verbatim what the book says. I do not agree that anyone should drop below 1200 calories a day and do not endorse that. I am simply sharing what is in fact stated in the book. I hope this clears up any confusion and would like to wish you all success in your endeavors.
The Biggest Loser Diet: Eat to Lose (pg.30) Copyrighted 2005
The Biggest Loser is WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BIGGEST FRAUD in "Reality T.V." (remember, "Reality T.V." IS NOT REAL).Although I have not verified your statement, I believe it sounds correct....
They are on a 1500 calorie intake per day + their 4 hours per day training. *Not* a 500 calorie intake per day. I saw the form, it said, "1500."
For a Trainer to put someone who weighs 500 +lbs, on a 1,500 calorie a day diet ALONG WITH 4+ hours exercise is CRIMINAL!!
Someone who weighs 500+ lbs, doing “Vigorous” exercise, is probably burning 400-500 calories an hour (remember, more you weigh, more you burn---and more IN TAKE you also need).....so that person is burning 1200-1500 a day. THAT IS HORRENDOUSLY Unhealthy for an Obese person to do that much and have that little in-take of food.
That is a set up for complete and utter failure.
I saw the Larry King special, and already one of the Women is gaining weight back (you can see it in her face).
A 1,500 calorie a day diet for someone NORMAL weight is aggressive, (that's a 25% reduction in the suggested daily intake of 2000 calories). Aggressive for a near weight person, much less someone morbidly obese.
I ABSOLUTELY 100% GUARANTEE YOU OVER 90% OF THE CONTESTANTS PUT THE WEIGHT BACK ON IN 4 YEARS OR LESS.
It angers me to no end that over-weight people watch that Garbage and believe it will help them loose weight....
For example, the CRAP where the trainers are yelling at them and pushing them to work harder, as if they should match what she can do....CRAP......CRAP.........CRAP......
If you're that obese, you need a life-style change. You need a way to find enjoyment in working out. I don't care if all you can do is walk 2 miles a day at a slow pace, AS LONG AS YOU DO IT, and as long as you ENJOY IT (so that it becomes part of a LIFE-STYLE---like a HOBBY), then you will CONTINUE to do it, and inevitably the weight will come off as you exercise more and eat healthy.
Yes, exercise has to be vigorous to “count”. However, a 500+ lbs person is going to break a sweat walking 2-miles. As long as you “break a sweat” and increase your heart rate, you're burning calories.
I must admit, the finale' is fun to watch to see how different everyone looks and how happy they are, but I GUARANTEE YOU, the weight will come back for 90%+ of them.

I found this very interesting...
On the Australian version of the biggest loser the women eat 1200 calories a day along with all the vigorous exercise they do. It's completely unhealthy but with a television show like BL immediate results are what makes money.
thanks for posting this
I just read this article reviewing Jillian's "Eat Less Diet" plan.
Jillian's Food Tips:
NO Foods: Alcohol Sugar Rice Flour (very limited quantities), Bread, Juice, Potato, Pasta, Soda's (unless they are diet), Tropical Fruit, Bananas, Melon, Coconut, Mango.
YES Foods: Chicken, Fish, Beef, All Seafood Fats are okay, Great Fats are avocado, nuts and salmon (in limited portions), Dairy is fine - low fat or non fat Green Veggies, Unlimited Fruit only before 5:00 PM - Apples, grapefruits and berries, Soy - (for vegetarians).
Here is a sample one-week diet that was used by the contestant Ryan:
Day 1
Breakfast: cereal, yogurt, one cup berries
Lunch: BBQ chicken breast, BBQ baked beans, big salad with sliced chicken
Dinner: 3 Gatorades
...
3 gatorades for dinner??!?!?!?! HOW CAN THIS BE HEALTHY?!?!?!!? I am so shocked!! The other days looked decently healthy but man... working out that hard and only drinking your dinner?? That is bad!
Here's a HUGE testament to how flawed this show is: the male contestants were EATING the junk food, while RUNNING around a stadium! And they didn't really consider which junk had the highest calories... they just grabbed the food and dumped it on the girls' tables. If they can't control their junk food cravings during a competition, I'd hate to see how they react to temptation when they get home (especially that Dan kid, who is the cockiest moron on the show).
And I won't even go into the 10 minute long conversation/commercial Bob and the males had about Quaker Weight Control oatmeal. As if Bob personally eats that stuff EVERY MORNING. One 160 cal packet of instant oatmeal is NOT a nutritionally balanced meal.
Of course they're not on a 500 calorie diet... if they were they'd be DEAD given the amount of exercise they do every day! They ARE on a diet of course... but nothing like that. The trainer was just lecturing one of the guys this week about needing to eat carbs and to make sure he had enough calories to fuel his workouts...
As for the challenge last night... it seems to me that the guys were nibbling on the stuff to rub it into the girls' faces that they were going to win anyway (we always lose so much more weight than you that we can SPARE a few hundred calories, so nyah nyah.). I don't think food cravings or lack of knowledge about diet had anything to do with it. One of them did it, so then the other three played along. It was a very juvenile challenge all round.
The weekly 'product placements' annoy the heck out of me too... one surefire way to make me NOT buy something is to push it that hard!

That is what I thought!!! If you are that heavy then shouldn't your breakfast be more than 160 calories?? I weigh 136.6 and I eat more than that for breakfast... and I am still losing weight :) The more I think about this show the more it annoys me.
How the heck did Ali lose like 6 pounds last night?? She is getting down there in weight... should she really be losing that much weight in 1 week?? How is that healthy? Now she only weighs 149 and lost 3.87 percent of her body weight... So she had a 21,000 calorie deficit for the week?? Wowza! Seams unhealthy to me. Her weekly caloric deficit is 17,500 calories more than mine!!!!!!!
Their calorie intake is according to the weight. Take your weight and multiply by 7. That is the amount of calories allowed a day. The way it works out is the bigger you are the more intake you are required to have. At the same time the goal is to burn more calories than you take in so that you will lose weight.

How does that work. If someone is 170 lbs x 7, then the calorie intake should be 1190. Is that just for people on the show or is that recommended for anyone? And also, is that 1190 calories a day in addition to many hours of workouts a day?
