Biggest Loser in the office?
Has anybody tried this at work? Me and a Co-worker would like to get this going at our office. Anybody have any suggestions or rules they would like to share? If you did try this or are still competing,How did it work for you?
We did this in my office, it started out pretty good, but eventually everyone got frustrated and quit. Some people would lie about how much they had lost, so the people who really did lose weight would get discouraged. We made a rule that everyone had to weigh in with a buddy, but people really didn't stick to it. And who wants to call out a coworker for lying about their weight? It just didn't work out. But if you have coworkers you trust to be honest it should be fine.
Our set up was this: everyone gives $5 by the 1st of the month and weighs in (with a buddy). At the end of the month everyone weighs in again with their buddy and calculates the % of weight they lost, highest percent of weight lost gets the cash.
I did it at two work places and it worked well each time. And both places, we weighed in together so no one could lie. At one place, there were about 10 of us doing it. Our HR lady had the scale. We'd go in and weigh in and she would keep the weight logs. We all kicked in 20 bucks and the contest went for three months. We started walking together at lunch. At the end, the top 3 people who had lost the most weight split the money $100 for first place, $60 for second place, and $40 for 3rd place. It was fun. I won second place.
The other place I did it was just three of us. Again, we all weighed in together. We pitched in $20 each month on weigh in day. The first month there was a tie for first so instead of getting $30 back and then putting in another $20, we just left the money in. At the end, there was $120 in the pot. I won first place and got $80 and the runner up got $40 (essentially got their money back). I lost about 12 lbs in the 2 months we did it, and was able to keep it off. Plus, it was great accountability at work...instead of snacking on junk food, we were all encouraging each other to stick with it.
You should definitely try it. At least, both of my experiences with it were positive. And the built in support and accountability were great. And winning a few bucks was awesome too. :-)
Good luck!
