  • Each Week, the Red Team Member with the Most Weight Loss* (InterGroup) -- will be awarded a $25 vitamuffin gift certificate

At the end of each week, I will check on the main site, and announce our Red Team Winner!  Punch, unfortunately, will not be served, but I invite everyone to congratulate our winner with gusto!  Afterward, I will send the gift card to the email address associated with that person.

Hi Julia!  I'm the newest edition to the Red Team!  I'm committed and ready and excited!  I've never done the biggest loser challenge before so I'm looking very forward to this new form of motivation!

(edit:  changed hours to minutes)

Hi Milwaukee Gal!  I am so happy to find out I'm on your team!  This is my first Biggest Loser Challenge as well.  The only other real challenge I've done was April 2008 Exercise Challenge.  I signed up for 1250 minutes (not hours) of exercise a month, did 1436, and lost twenty pounds.

(look on the earlier post -- I have a challenge for us Red-Losers)

I am cutting up carrots and thinking about VICTORY!

Thanks for making a thread and the intergroup challenge Julia!  I'm determined to win at least once because I haven't ever tried a vitamuffin Laughing

Good luck to everyone!

ETA:  Everyone should join the exercise challenge.  It's simple and a great motivator.  Here's t he thread: http://caloriecount.about.com/october-exercis e-challenge-ft116093

Alle, thanks for organizing part 8, and thanks for having me on your team.

I've looked at your profile before, and continue to be impressed and inspired by you.  I'm studying in montreal to get my M.Sc in PDEs.  It is very easy to blow off taking care of myself, and explain it away as a necessary evil of graduate school.  but that's crap, and I know it.  it takes just as much time to run up and down the mountain as it does to loll around in the tub for an hour.  so, under your recommendation, I am joining the october chalenge -- for 1250 minutes.

re: vitamuffins.  I think I was transfixed by the Flash-animation on their website, and also, during the past six months of cc, I've developped an uncharacteristic sweet tooth.  I used to think there was no single greater combination than bacon, egg, and cheese on a toasted bagel.  now, I want cinnamon rolls every morning.  strange.  I haven't tried the vitamuffins yet, but UPS is delivering a sample kit today.  should arrive just after I get back from my run.

(I always hit that "post" button a few too many times)

Hi there RED team!!  This is also my first challenge of any kind and I'm also excited about the new form of motivation.  The inter-team challenge looks like fun too!  Thanks for the great idea and additional motivator Julia!

hey feds and everyone -- ups dropped off the vitamuffins -- a whole variety kit -- I put them in the freezer save for the "double chocolate dream," which I ate.  amazing.  6g fiber and 100 calories.

alle:  thanks for adding the link on the main site!

hey guys/gals!

lynzeh  checking in! i hope i do well on this. I  was doing so good this summer till school kicked back in now i am to busy or tired to get up and move! so today i am going to try to get in rutine again! Good luck to all!

Hey Fellow red teamers!,

This is my first time too. This should be fun. I love watching the show since that also gives me motivation. School started for me too but Im off to a great start going up and down 4 stories of stairs to get to my classes! Good luck!

lynzeh and ashelia -- wonderful that you found the red thread.  don't let scholastic pursuits mess with your health.  my own program sponsors "pizza seminars" every wednesday, and every other friday:  free pizza and pop for anyone who stumbles into the lecture that day.  I choke down apples and watch the number theorists go through slice after slice of pepperoni, thinking mean thoughts.  but by the time I get home, I am so impressed with myself, it becomes a welcome challenge.  fight for yourself!

omg, incentive! how awesome! :D

hello everyone from the red team! good luck everyone! this is so awesome, i'm excited. did anyone else think this seasons biggest loser is emotional? i cried :[ and i barley ever cry, hehe.  it was so sad but i'm happy for them!

This is also my first challenge, and I'm very excited. Ive been on calorie count for awhile, but always push it to the side...hopefully this will keep me on it. Thanks to those that started the challenge and the Red Team forum!!!

So when do we weigh in?

bienvenue stinsy & jennlett to the red team thread, a forum for gritty women with more moxie than you can shake a stick at.

we won't weigh-in to this site -- though feel free to share your weight triumphs, or gripes.  I will follow the official "big site" tallies.  the first vita-challenge winner will be announced on 10/10, the day after week 2 weigh-ins (Week 2.   10/7-10/9).  the second winner, on 10/17, the day after week 3 weigh-ins (Week 3.   10/14-10/16), etc.  if you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask.

(go! go! go!)

So I have a question ... something that I've been reading on forums that doesn't make sense to me:

A lot of people have posted that working out has slowed down their weight loss.  This doesn't make sense to me.  Since you are burning calories working out and working out is supposed to speed up your metabolism, how would this slow down weight loss?  I understand the whole building muscle thing, but I can't image you're really building that much muscle ... will someone please explain this to me?

I read a study on shelterpub.com about weight training vs. weight loss.  it quoted a study in which 2 groups of overweight men started an exercise regime for eight weeks.  one group -- purely aerobic, the other -- half aerobic, half weight training.

On average, the group doing half weight training gained 2 pounds of muscle, and lost ten pounds of fat, equaling 8 pounds net loss, while the purely aerobic group lost 3 pounds fat and .5 pounds muscle, equaling 3.5 pounds net loss.

I think weight training is beneficial for feeling good, retaining muscle during dieting, as well as for weight loss (provided you are overweight).  though the article did mention that initially, you will most likely see no weight loss, or even weight gain, as your body builds lean tissue.

here, in Biggest Loser world, we have 12 whole weeks to get deisel -- so don't be afraid to pump some iron.

In fact, yesterday I bought a traction bar and mounted it in my living room.  I can do 6 proper pull-ups and 2 proper chin-ups (id est: without flailing about like a fish).

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the site and decided to join the biggest loser challenge because I just can't seem to stay motivated on my own.  I'm hoping staying involved in this challenge with keep me on track.

taj!  I'm wrecked (vp debate was amazing!) -- but I am so glad to see your post.  it's wonderful to be on the team with you.  keep us posted with your progress!
