What do you think of this year's Biggest Loser TV show? We are starting a competition at work again this year on Jan 12 through May 10. Last year's winner took home $500. They rest of us enjoyed our pounds off. No, we didn't use the extreme methods of the show. We just weighed in twice and encouraged each other. About 25 people participated.
Love the show but hate the way Jillian treats the contestants. People may think that's what all trainers are like. They are not.
I love the show and absolutely adore Jillian! I have watched pretty much every season, but don't really like the twist for this season. After having billed this cast as the heaviest yet (therefore in the most need of help), they decide to hang nine of them out to dry by sending them home the first week... it kind of makes me upset... that said, I will still watch because I love the show! AND, it looks like there won't be a repeat of the nastiness of the Heba, Vicki, Ed trio... :-)
I watched the first episode this season (it's the only time I've watched it), but I think by featuring the "heaviest" cast ever, and with their dramatic 11 to 30lbs weight loss per person in ONE WEEK makes the show too extreme. Almost like Extreme Home Makeover, or any other type of tv show that sensationalizes something. I understand that the show does motivate people to take better care of themselves, but an average overweight person will never be able to even come close to meeting the kinds of goals and changes they did on the show. I'm going to keep watching out of curiosity, but honestly does everything...even losing weight, have to be "bigger" to be "better" these days?
Love that show and this season is the best. Estelle and Jerry (the grandparent team White) are members at my health club! They even had a big reception for members to watch the first episode at the club. I won't spoil it for anyone, but they both look pretty good. They have been filming around the club too. Pretty Cool.
PS. It was confirmed. Jillian is a Ba** Buster. But man would I love to train with her for just a couple of weeks!
I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I love the show, but I do. I don't see the weight loss that happens on the show as a realistic example of what most people should aim for, but that doesn't change the fact that I find it inspirational.
I started with a trainer this week and every time I want to say "I can't" I think about what I've watched. I'm only 40 pounds overweight at this point, not 100 or more. "I can't" isn't an option, instead I say "I can do better."
And I love Jillian. She is definitely harsh, but she does have her human moments and the bond she forms with her team members shows. She's not as nice as Bob, but her not-niceness yields results, as shown by the way her team members dominate the end of the season.
That is great! I love that show! Keep up the good work!
that show is really good. this season it was really hard to watch the first episode, because you could see the pain the people felt when they were weighed....at the end the get weighed in t-shirts and i think it should be that way in the begining also..you can tell they feel horrible.....public humiliation is never a good thing....bob is one of the most insperational people i have ever seen, just to look at that guys reactions shows how much he really cares!
Honestly, skillz, I always thought they were weighed in with shirts on starting mid-wayish through the season was to cover up the unfortunate side effect of massive, rapid, weight loss - saggy, saggy skin.
I know that the winner of one Australia's BL seasons was very upfront about the fact that he was putting part of his winnings to surgery to remove the excess skin left from his weight loss.
Love your answers, all.
Betzc, sounds like fun having a pair of participants around your health club, and I especially like those two since I'm 61 myself. I've been name dropping lately that I know Bob Crowley, winner of "Survivor, Gabon" at sort of the "third tier of friendship" level, and it's fun knowing a new celebrity.
Lizzie, I was also rather dismayed that they dropped so many off the show immediately, but that odd twist will be interesting when the "at home" results are in, especially considering last year's winner.
I love Jillian, too, and saw her last week on a morning show when she called this the "Olympics of weight loss" and said she would never recommend the process for general practice. I've also seen Bob on the Australian show and liked the cut of his jib there. Do you all recall the first season of the American show with Kim Lyons, when Bob had the ugliest haircut I ever saw on a good-looking man AND played the bad-a-- role Jillian has now appropriated?
I LOVE the show! I actually have my SO hooked, too....can you believe it?!?!
You gotta remember that yes, the weightloss is extreme, but they are under constant watch by the team of doctors, and of course, the trainers. Everything they do is what they've been TOLD to do by the team they have there.
That's one reason why so many earlier contestants went home and gained again, though, cuz it was such a shock that getting back into 'real' life was hard and they gained back.
Yep, rapid weightloss doesn't give enough time for the skin to tighten up with the weightloss.....plus sometimes being that big to that little, there is nothing you can do about the skin (especially the older you are, skin type, etc).
I think the show does more good than harm, though, because it really seems to inspire people. It's just another case of "don't try this at home".......And I hope it shows the skinny mini's just what we have to lug around all the time ;op
I love it, although I haven't seen this season at all.
It's incredibly emotional and real! Ok so some of the challenges are silly, but they do show the way they can handle temptation.
the point is to inspire people, to say everyone and anyone can do this (just not as rapidly/ dramtically). Hopefully viewers understand that :)
