Biking in San Jose

Hi all! I am very out of shape and looking to start getting active (finally!). I am overweight, so high impact activities are too stressful on my knees and joints right now. I have a great bike that is currently at my mom's house in Sacramento. I would like to bring it here, but I have a problem with figuring out where to store it!!

I live in a building downtown (near the college) with no parking garage or storage units. My apartment itself is much too small to accommodate a bicycle. I have asked my landlord if there is extra storage somewhere in the building, and he says "no".

Has anybody else who lives here in the city had this problem? And if so, what is a good solution?

I haven't been willing to go rent a typical storage unit a.) because as a student I can't really afford it, and b.) I want to be able to get to it (my bike) without having to drive somewhere in my car to pick it up. I'd rather it be someplace more accessible to myself as a downtown resident.

Any suggestions? I know it's a long-shot, but I thought I'd try....

I'm not much for ideas, but maybe you can pull the couch away from the wall a little and put the bike behind the couch?

Another idea: I seen my friend do this: you can install a type of pole from your wall and hang your bike from one wheel off of the pole (the pole extends parallel to the floor horizontally).

Good luck.
