Bill Clinton's Awesome :)

He freed the Journalists in North Korea. 

I don't know what it is about President Clinton, but you just get swept up in his magic. I saw him speak last year while he was campaigning for Obama, he came to my university. His speech was fantastic! 

I don't mean this to be a thread about Republicans vs. Democrats. Or how much you hated Clinton. I just have to say that I moved to this country when I was ten, and there was nothing like the U.S. in the mid 90s. It was the greatest country in the world, and Bill Clinton was the definitely the coolest president in the world. I grew up in Dominican Republic and I felt like he was my president too... 

Lol if we had to (not saying that it's good or w.e) pick somebody to be the King or the permanent President of the U.S. I would vote for Clinton (I think a lot of democrats would too). 

This is a really lighthearted post, I really don't want it to turn into a serious discussion.... just wanted to gush about bill clinton. 

I think I may vomit my dinner... Yes it's nice to see them come home... But lets hear the truth about negotiating with the leader of this country -- don't believe they came home because Bill Clinton is great-- we gave up something, you can believe that. I'm tired of pandering to beople who have no regard for human life.

I know man, I don't think that they came back because bill clinton is great. I just liked seeing him on t.v. and wanted to make a lighthearted post about. Please don't take it too seriously. I have like a childhood admiration (he was president when I was a child) for Bill Clinton, and just wanted to comment on how great it was seeing him on t.v.

their situation was intolerable but apparantly kim jung il saw some use for them as a bargaining chip. its not like clinton dropped out of a chinook with a knife clenched between his teeth. get real. obama sent him.

Freals. Seeing Bill Clinton up there made me feel nostalgic for the 90s...lol I don't know am I the only person out there that feels this way about him?

Bill Clinton is a nice bloke. Much respect for him.

Clinton flew all the way to North Korea, under the cover of night, to rescue two beautiful women from the clutches of an evil dictator. And that's the exact same alibi he used on Hillary last week

Hilary went to North Korea a month or so ago to try to negotiate their release. It obviously didn't work. Kim Jong Il had interacted with Bill Clinton before so there was some respect there. That's why it worked. 

North Korea didn't get anything so I'm not sure why your panties are in a bunch, etrnlmoonbabe.

its not called negotiations for nothing alibsam. It was a trade, no two ways about it. They're just playing it like we didn't give them something they wanted.

North Korea wouldn't just all of a sudden decide to be nice. they've had those journalists for a long time, they could have kept them longer without even worrying about it. We had something they wanted more than those two women. that's all there is to it. We gave them something, but no one knows what. that's how it works...and that's how it has always worked, and always will. Don't be so naive.

haha I know more about what's going on in North Korea than you do, I'm sure. I'm not naive... not even close. They didn't have the journalists for a long time... just a few months. 

obviously you are naive. Kim Jong Il doesn't give two flying F**** about two American journalists. If he can get something out of a deal though, i'm sure he would have.

and I don't care if you think you "know more" than me, thats not the point. The point is, we DID give up something. Its always an exchange. ALWAYS. Thats why its called negotiations. We gave them something, information, names, technology....god knows what.

And i'm sure your definition of a "long time" and the definition of a person held captive are probably a little different. Ask a POW. Anything beyond a week is a long time.

For the record, I think Kim John Il captured the reporters for the same reason he threatened to send missiles to Hawaii, because he was looking to make a statement of strength, to let the world know that his is a little country, but powerful enough that it should be feared or at least respected.

I think he was always going to give the journalists back and bringing Bill Clinton in to discuss his relase gave him the attention and statement he wanted. The US took him seriously.

Props should go to the Clintons for understanding the situation and bringing the reporters home. But I don't know that I'd say it was ALL because of Bill.

Geez alibsam who peed on your cornflakes?  Obviously Kim Jong Il got something out of the deal, otherwise they would have released them sooner.  I'm also sure that a "few months" was a pretty long time to them considering they were allegedly facing 12 years a hard labor.  Clinton did a good thing, but I don't for a minute think Kim Jong Il let them go out of the kindness of his black heart, or because he's got some kind of man crush on Bill Clinton.  There was a degree of give and take, that's for certain, so regardless of how much "more" you know about North Korea, you have no direct knowledge of what went on behind closed doors.

 hehehehe!  That is how every politician should travel.  It may be expensive, but think how badass they would look!!

Nothing like arguing with a brick wall. Of course I don't know what goes on behind closed doors. Never said I did. 

And I'm sure the girls crossed into North Korea. They're lucky they were shot. Last fall a Korean woman was hiking and accidentally crossed into the North and she was shot on the spot. I would expect the same to happen to me if I crossed illegally.
