binge eating and calorie counting disorder (but thin and healthy eater...help!)

Quote  |  Reply
hey I'm really desperate. Since I was thirteen I count every calorie I eat. I spend so much time figuring out exactly how many calories I've digested that I annoy my family and I feel neurotic. Lately I have been binging crazily without feeling full or hungry...nothing. I drink diet soda and am considered normal/thin. I'm not overly thin by my BMI is 20. I will eat 1,000 calories by 10am (I get up at 6am). Lately I wind up at 2500 for the day, which is too much. today though I was at 4000. this is awful. I need help and I can't afford therapy. i can not stop counting, and I can not stop snacking...whats a girl to do? :/ lol

i don't know what other people in your house eat but try to fill your cabinets/fridge with healthy snacks.. so that if you do turn to a snack it will be something thats good for you and not of a high caloric value.. 100 calorie pack popcorn is good and pretty filling, fruits and veggies are always good for you.. maybe if you were just eating healthy foods you would start to feel better about your eating habits and would feel less of a need to obsess over the calories, easier said than done though
I have struggled with anorexia for the past year or so and have also been a calorie counting freak. That is actually what started it. I started counting my calories to be healthy and then I ended up only eating around 500 a day...which is soo unhealthy!! But eating too much is unheatlhy too. Try splitting up your meals, or only allow yourself to eat at certain times. To avoid grabbing junk, how about get a stash of fruits and veggies or whole grains. Maybe you could even go out of the house to a deli or something when you feel the urge to grab the not so healthy cookie box.

the thing is I'm probably the healthiest eater ever. I only eat low fat foods and then a ton of produce.

hello, been there!

the fact that you recognize binging on produce is still binging is a good thing, I dot he same thing. Your body is crying for more nutrients and good foods and eating that much produce sure does havoc to your intestinal system, at least it does to mine, and I have some stomach problems as a result. Try this, as scary as it might seem, eat some protein, fat, grains and produce at EACH meal. Try to only eat portions. Not "hmm let me just have an apple with peanut butter, than 2 pretzels, then a handful of cereal, then a bunch of broccoli" etc. You have to get back to eating normally. if you do this, you will be able to trust yourself and not ahve to obsess over calories. There is a world of food out there, go out and enjoy it!
